Typical hippies, don't even bother finding out how monitors actually work.

Also, I don't like to encourage gothery ;)

Yeah, all that text takes up a lot of room. We don't want to fill up the internet, people!

Most excellent. Will you be sitting on a harley bar stool or a nun leg barstool?

Back in my day, we had a cure for ADD, and it was free.

It was called "Sit down and shut up!"

[/old man mode]

I never knew that moving your legs was a syndrome until recently. :D

But then again everything seems to get a name as some sort of syndrome, disorder or disease these days.

Same as cigarette smoking is an addiction and alcoholism is a disease .. never could figure that one out.

Hey! I love my pussy wig! Get off my case already!

Is this an investment property?

Are we going to import and farm Boobies here? Or are there native Boobies?

I've been known to layout out whole telephone books by hand before going to the computer.

Our dog is finally out of the puppy stages. She's two now and extremely we behaved but she still has the occassional relapse.

Imagine my horror when I looked into the other room and saw Findlay (dog) dragging our cat (Hank) through the house by his collar. Hank was just laying on the floor on his side letting Findlay do it too. I think it may have been Hank's plan all along because he hates wearing his collar.

Those two make such the odd couple.

I always pee on earth... doesn't everyone? Except for astronauts I guess. It'd be pretty ridiculous to except us to pee anywhere else.

Great quotes, Kool!

Man, another tough week... I sure hope that things will be settling down after the holidays. Everybody who is celebrating, enjoy the celebration. Anybody not celebrating, enjoy your time off. Anybody with no time off, enjoy the fact that you probably won't have too much to do since most businesses are closed, so have fun getting paid to slack off. ;)

Happy <your thing here> everybody.

Wow, I guess it really has been a busy week if I haven't even been around enough to have seen half these posts. Was even busy at home – aside from the Christmas shopping & gift wrapping, my neighbor's water heater rusted out and leaked... and it's on MY side of the basement, so I had to be home to allow strangers to traipse through my home to replace the thing. Of course the computer is in the one room I could hole up the cat, so I couldn't surf since I would have wanted to keep the door opened so I could hear what was going on, essentially allowing the cat to go down into the filthy musty basement and beg for attention from the repairmen.

</surprise rant>

Happy Friday all! I'll be putting together the last of my gifts and working as usual!

Thanks for the quotes, Kool!

Woohoo! This is my last day of work for the year!

And Mini-TBK is due any day now! Where the heck did that time go? At least the nursery is ready. If he's born during my week off, then I won't be going back to work until about mid-January, even though it won't exactly be like a vacation.

Happy Friday to all, and to all a good Knight! Ha-ha! Get it? Knight? It's like the end of "The Night Before Christmas," except it's Knight... Ahem... sorry, I guess it just wasn't that funny.

Happy Friday, Happy Holidays and bring that baby into the world safely BTW! Congrats on that. I am looking forward to the pure wilderness of even more northern MN with the parents. It always looks like a Christmas Card up there this time of year.

My New Years resolution? Make the doggone QOTW! Well, maybe that's asking too much, eh?:)

I have off Monday and Tuesday (we almost had to go in Monday, but we convinced him that it just wasn't worth it). We still have to work New Year's Eve, but we're off New Year's Day (I mean, what's the point of having us come in if we're all going to be totally hungover and useless?).

Happy "last Friday before the holidays" everyone. :)

I'm off from Christmas Day through New Year's day. We do have to work Christmas Eve, but we'll probably get to leave early if workload permits. Then back to work on the 2nd of January. :)

And we all got a one week's pay bonus for the first time in about 5 or 6 years (things have been really financially tight here for a while). Plus they gave all of us one of these. Happy Friday everyone! Be careful with your booze intake. Power chucking isn't nearly as comfortable when it comes out your nose. Trust me.

Never considered it, but maybe pinching one's nostrils when throwing up would be the way to go. Though when I'm vomiting I'm hardly thinking about these things.

It's our annual work party this evening. We're going to a drag queen caberet. Should be fun. One of the bosses is homophobic. :D

It's 11am and I'm not hungover. Last night was good, but we snuck off early. Drank too much and got tired. Oh well!

I'm itchy has hell now. Our cat has given the rabbits fleas and I bet the carpet in the whole house now needs to be treated. I'm so not impressed. My flatmates (cat's owner) refuses to use a flea collar, but I think she is reconsidering it now. Problem is, every time the cat is treated for fleas, she gets fleas again from the carpet and the cats she hangs out with.

Buda, do they have Advantix available in NZ? We use that on Darla. It's a topical thing, you put it on the back of their neck (where they can't easily lick it off). It's a once a month thing, and works like a charm.

flea collars aren't particularly good for cats, and not terribly effective either... if you can find any of the following treatments locally (you probably have to get them from the vet's office) they do tend to be simpler and more successful:

Advantage: http://advantage.petparents.com/

Frontline: http://frontline.us.merial.com/home/

Revolution: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/25692.php

Don't buy the "Hartz Flea and Tick" treatment at the pet store - I believe that one was implicated in a bunch pf pet deaths because it can cause neurological problems. (here (http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/25692.php) is an article about it.)

Sorry, I always mix up the Advantix/Advantage thing, Mo.

All's I know is we had a flea bout with Darla, and once we used that stuff, fleas no more! Pretty amazing stuff.

budafist

Thanks Mo, I'm thinking of either Advantage or Revolution for the bunnies, but want to get the vet's advice on Monday first. Frontline is a known bunny killer so going to avoid that.

Mentex has been treated for fleas, but I suspect that she keeps getting them again from either the carpet/house that she's already infected or other cats that she visits.

I haven't seen Mentex over the last few hours, but apparently she has a beautiful new pink flea collar and looks like she's ready for a night out in town. She's grown too big for her kitten collar so we've grown used to seeing her "naked".

So now the only option is to treat all animals and the whole house at once. We're going away for a few days over New Years and the bunnies are going to stay with family so that's when we will flea bomb the whole house then. I'm planning on closing the garage door to the rest of the house (cat door is in the garage) so that Mentex only gets to use the garage over that time.

Most flea treatments say not to use on cats under 3 months. Some people seem to think treatments that are ok for adult cats are ok to use on adult bunnies, but the buns are only 4 months old.

I have itchy ankles so I figured my furry slippers were heaven for fleas. I put them through the washing machine today.

Will be glad to be itch free! I've been told that fleas season is December to March so we have a few months of this ahead of us.

hey urst - I thought that advantix and advantage were two separate things, and that I just hadn't heard of the former. ;)

I need to get more sleep. :D

Buda, they do make carpet treatments for fleas, but they come in two varieties... those that don't really work, and those that poison your entire house (those make me worry about the well being of pets and even people living there).

On the other hand, treating the pets with one of the products listed above and increasing the frequency of vacuuming might work better than any floor treatment according to this (http://www.canada.com/windsorstar/news/story.html?id=90d50ed0-23ad-41fe-9dcb-99978d75d80d) recent article.

Make sure to dispose of the vacuum bag outside the house immediately in case any of the flea eggs survive and manage to get out.

You can get a Halo vaccuum...:D
Kinda pricey.
Fleas can jump out of the way, but the eggs can't. Breaks the life cycle.

Mo, for some reason I always (mistakenly) call it Advantix, we use Advantage (after checking the package). We don't really have a bad problem with fleas here in our new apartment, but in our old apartment, there were dogs dropping by all the time, and they'd bring the fleas with them.

We had to bomb our house (with Darla and us outside), then we applied the Advantage after the bomb thing was done, and that was the end of that problem. We never had a reoccurrence afterwards either, even with the dogs still visiting us. Apparently the Advantage acts as a long range repellent as well.

budafist
12-23-2007, 11:30 PM
Called the vet this morning and they recommend Advantage. Only thing is that it only lasts 1 week on rabbits (smaller dose that other animals and they tend to lick it off). They are saving their last 6 pack (3 weeks worth for 2 buns) for me today and I'm going to pick up a flea comb too. Poor Olliver is totally ridden with fleas (my flatmate found and killed about 5 yesterday) and Tofu only has 1 or 2. They are still small - I think of them as big sometimes because they have grown so much since we got them, but the vet said that Olliver was 1.3kg and Tofu was 1.5kg. It's amazing that you can really see and feel the .2kg difference between them.

I think I'll separate them for a few hours after we apply the stuff in case they lick each other.

We have a bagless vacuum. I emptied it this morning. Will try and vacuum just about every day if I can be bothered.

I'm still itchy as hell. Makes me miserable!
