The van is half packed and we'll be leaving in about half an hour to go camping on a bit of land up north.
See you all in a few days. Have a safe and happy New Years.

Well, I'm back. I didn't take a heaps of good pics, but then again we took a lot of questionable pics. Let's just say we were sober about 20% of the time.
I normally get ravaged by mosquitos but didn't this time. It must be something to do with the fact that I smelled so strongly of alcohol and other toxic substances.
Nature is way cooler than being in the city when you are wasted off your nut! Had encounters with frogs, sheep, dogs, horses and cows. Great fun!
There were no showers or flushing toilet, but swam in the sea almost every day. Spent a lot of time in the sun and am now very brown. I expect to be peeling in a few days, but at least I'm not sore and red.

Ya, no kidding. It's 12ºF here. Perhaps it's colder elsewhere in this hemisphere, but still. I can't even fathom what a warm sun would feel like on my skin.
12º is a heat wave compared to the 9º we have here :p

I hope to never experience the -37ºC that was our Nov 06 trip to Calgary. Everything else has seemed posetively tropical after that adventure.

Temperatures should never have "-" before them, IMO. And they should at least be 2 digits or more.
I'm glad you had fun on your trip Buda. Feel free to post your questionable photos ... after all, we're all a little questionable.

^You must be a fan of the Kelvin system.... There's no negatives, and by the time you get down to the single digits, you're nearly at absolute zero and you'd have been dead long before. :D

I like Kelvin. I had a spider plant called Kelvin once. I suspect Buda likes Kelvin too. I think she's marrying one.

Are you not getting the same heatwave that is coming my way? Tomorrow it will be up to 35° and if the weatherman is correct (a big if) we will see 47°! WOOT! Early spring here we come!!!

I love Kelvin, but Celsius is useful too! I'm pretty sure I saw our high the other day was 31 Celsius...now let me google what that is in F...It's about 88 Fahrenheit. Pretty warm!

We're due to have 70mph winds and something ridiculous like 5 inches of rain over the next day or so. It'll remind me of home  .

Welcome back Buda, sounds like you had a great time!
Yeah, Frank, I saw we're supposing to be getting some weather this weekend. I heard there were major delays at the airport in San Francisco today due to the high wind conditions.

Here is a selection of the better photos taken over our camping holiday. The ones of people are mostly awful - we were either drunk or hungover. Not really photogenic!
The beach at Omapere about 15 minutes drive from our campsite.

A big pohutukawa tree - the New Zealand Christmas Tree.

You're not staying in the countryside if cows (or sheep) don't block the road at least once. These cows thought they owned the road. They weren't in any hurry to move off it. We just had to wait until they were bored of the road.

We met this lovely horse and his friends at sunrise on New Year's day. Me and my fiance were very unsober at this point and it was pretty special hanging out with animals. Such a different vibe to being trashed in the city. Yes, that's a momma and her baby in the background.

This was the view from our campsite. Those are some of our friends standing on the hill at dawn on New Years Day. We would have joined them but there was too much gin on that hill and they were going loco.

This wee guy was about 1mm in size and we couldn't see what kind of insect he was so I took a macro shot of him just to check it out. That fabric is the tightly woven cotton of my pillowcase - nothing coarse at all.

Don't! It wasn't pretty. By 8am I was very ready for bed. I'd been wearing some canvas shoes that were soaked through from the wet paddocks. The bottom of my jeans were soaked too. By the time I got to bed my feets were super wrinkled from being wet for hours.
