Hi Folks, My worst nightmare has happened. Got 1000 A4 calendars printed which were wire bound...only to find that when they came back the dates in December are wrong. Even though it was proof read twice and and was proofed by the customer. But it needs changing anyway...does anybody know if it's possible to reopen the wire binding to allow a replacement page to fit in. I had heard that once it's bound that's it. It's a 13 leaf A4 calendar wire bound at the top. I really appreciate any advice.

Cheers

No, wire binding generally gets destroyed when you remove it. Plastic comb binding can be removed and put back, but I think you're out of luck.

Do you have a disclaimer saying that client's pay for reprints/costs if the proof they signed off on has a mistake in it? We hold our clients accountable, but then again, we do give them a cheap rate for reprints since we are a print company. Talk to your printer, they may give you a good deal - no printer likes an upset customer.

I guess it's something to learn form.

-----------------------------

Just an after thought, it's possible to tear out the December page carefully (without destroying the wire bind). Since it's the very back page, it just might be that you could slip the page out and insert in another. You can punch the new December pages and then jimmy them into the binds. But the holes need to be in exactly the same spot for this to work. It's time consuming, but it could be a lot cheaper.

Of course you'll need to check that this method is going to work first. Sometimes if the wire is bound very tightly, it's near impossible to get a sheet in.

Good luck!

Many thanks for your advice Budafist....it's worth giving a go..the alternative of a total reprint is too scary at this stage.

Cheers

It is possibe to remove a wire stitch, replace a page and re-stitch, our printer offers this service but lets face it, its never gonna be perfect and does take quite a bit of labour as it has to be hand finished but may well be cheaper than a re-print........ and btw, i wouldnt go and try to 'jimmy' anything!!

1000 copies? Not many, there should be a way to replace Dec only and not the whole thing. Talk to the printer, there's got to be a way.
