It has a similar style to Zone (http://www.identifont.com/list?3+Zone+0+7X8+7+7PC+4+3YJ+4+8A7+4+7WL+4+GRQ+3+ 9Y0+3+IK2+3+3GS+3+4AC+3+DYT+3+A5B+3+6IH+3+31U+3+1Q T+3+A5A+3+678+3+355+3+C62+3+N5+3+67W+3+HBM+3+3OM+3 +GSV+3+5PH+2+I7J+2+I7K+2+IDR+2+GOO+2+CJO+2), but different.

yeah i tried both. I thought the A would give it away.

Could be a custom A. People do that sometimes.

Looks like something Ed Benguiat might have designed, the N is a giveaway.

From the look of the sample, it looks like it's scanned from a printed piece. It could be a display type from back when there were still typositor machines. It's possible it's not been digitized yet.

I find it strange that the N on the lower right is strait cut and not serif.

If you just need CAIN'S you could trace it in Illy, if you need the rest of the alphabet ??

I'm no help on this one :p

I think this looks like letters borrowed from Serif Gothic See http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/linotype/itc-serif-gothic/. The A is an inverted V, and the N is (I think) fabricated from an H.

Sorry, I have to completely disagree. Apart from the capital C, there's no similarity. The S is different, so's the cap I. It's a stretch to think Serif Gothic on this one, methinks.

I agree with Urstwile on this one. There are too many differences. Either its an old font scanned as said before, a custom font or artwork, or a scarcely used freebie font.

appears to be this one: http://www.dafont.com/archeologicaps.font but definetively its not.

Er um, no. My vote is still with a display font that may or may not have been digitized yet.

I completely agree with Urst on this ... those fonts are in no way similar. This font either hasn't been digitized yet or has been created for just this instance.

OK, I certainly agree that Serif Gothic is NOT identical, but to say it's in no way similar is pretty hard-nosed. It's obviously customized, and I try to answer such questions with what I think could be used to re-create it. If you don't like that choice, there are other monotone serifs like this, such as ITC Elan (see http://www.fontshop.com/search/?q=Elan&x=18&y=7&sample_text=CAVINS&sample_size=36). I realize the S curve isn't identical, but if you are trying for a 'look', I think this gets you close. (You might also recall that the poster of this question seemed to think even Serif Gothic was close enough.) Penumbra Serif is also in this general style, and in its MM form you could vary the amount of serif you had from sans to full serif. See http://www.fontshop.com/search/?q=Penumbra&x=3&y=6&sample_text=CAVIHNS&sample_size=36. The differences here are even greater, but the general feel I think is similar. That's all I'm saying -- similar, not identical.

If it's a "look", then I think ITC Benguiat (http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/ef/itc-benguiat/) might be closer.

Yes, the N made me think of Benguiat too.

urstwile

:) Yeah, the N's an Ed Benguiat thing for sure. Korinna has a similar style, but it doesn't have the same feel to me as Benguiat does.

Oh! I actually have this font family!
It's called "Staid" or "Staid Gothic". Where to get it - not a clue.
There's several weights that this may have been taken from, though obviously still modified.

Um, the N's not right. :o

GraphixNPrint
01-13-2008, 11:44 PM
the N isn't right
the A / V isn't right
the S is slightly different
the apostrophy isn't right
the serif's on the C are off

;)

PrintDriver

It could be it's not a single font.
But I think Drazan wins on closeness.

I'm with Urst. This is either modified or pre-digitized.

Drazan
01-14-2008, 01:09 AM
Oh, I do believe it's a modified, or combo font. The wieghts of the font I posted also have different "A" and "V" that would match. But the "N" is completely modified. So's the " ' ".

Actually, the apostrophe just isn't a smart apostrophe. I noticed your screenshot comes out of Font Explorer, Drazan, which apparently doesn't do typographer's quotes as a default. :)
