i understand that nowadays windows based machines are just as capable as macs as far as design is concerned. i love both equally(although i cannot stand itunes, but please leave it at that, thats my opinion that i just wanted to air out, so remain on topic). when i do job searches i always come across companies lookin gfor designers who want people who are MAC profecient. i see it A LOT. so my question is if windows pc's are capable, why do a majority of companies prefer mac users or those with mac knowledge?
i feel its just personal preference. whoever owns the company make the decision whats machine they will run.
i just want to know what you guys think and feel.
and please dont fish slap me. i swear its not a usual mac vs pc topic. i promise. and i u do decide to fish slap me make shure its a halibut

You said it right there. They cut and sign the checks. It's what they want so you roll with it.

actually it is because im not asking which one is better. im asking why business prefer them. i have yet to come across a mac vs pc debate even mention that. its always about capabilities and which can do what. i have yet to see it be mentioned about the employers and why they choose mac.

you want to get slapped just for the hallibut? LOL. ;)
Yes, as graphicsmama said, it's because macs were traditionally used for graphic design. Some firms may still desire mac experience over pc if, for example, they already have the hardware and software in place. A lot of jobs seem to want you to have experience with both.
I thought that I remembered a semi-recent thread that went into this in more detail, but my cursory search didn't locate anything, and quite frankly, I'm just too beat to pursue it. Maybe somebody else can point you in its direction.

because macs are better! nanny nanny boo boo.
J/k
It's the standard. that's all. it was the standard before PC's were capable and lots of firms and Co's are vested in Mac and loyal to mac and love Mac and aren't going to switch over simply because PC's finally caught up.
They know MAC, they have Mac, they want employees that aren't going to demand new alien hardware be bought for them.
If you have a PC at home and like it, hey thats cool, but don't NOT-learn Mac simply because you don't think you should have to. You will exclude yourself from a large swath of the design industry just for being stubborn.

i read this post also but i didnt feel it answered my question. he wanted some info to help pitch the idea of getting macs. i wanted to know if there was a definate reason as to why employers chose employees with mac knowledge over pc knowledge. my research lead me to believe it is just preference. i figured many of you are in the profesional field and would either know or simply support my idea. but i feel it has been answered.

Since gigabitz has had his question answered to his satisfaction and further replies will more than likely be of the kind we don't wish to dwell on in the gdf I am going to now close this thread.
PS, gigabitz this thread has been added to our FAQ. :)
