I need some suggestions on professional portable media solutions. The art department and much of the faculty at my school suggest iPods as a storage solution but that seems ridiculous to me since there has to be another, much economic solution. I know other media exists like portable hard drives, other much cheaper mp3 players, dvds, cds, flash drives, ect, ect, but i would like something as reliable as an iPod and that is also more professional than zip disks. If it comes down to it, ill buy an iPod 20gb or a LaCie 20gb but im just researching my options. (Note: my storage solution must be win and mac compatible)

When you say storage do you mean transport?
Or storage as in long term?
Or storage as in rewritable?

Nothin wrong with zip disks in the short term.

High quality CD, DVD are good for long term storage.
If you are sending stuff to clients/vendors, what's wrong with CD's? You can even get fancy with the label.
There are plenty of USB drive options but they are kinda pricey for not a lot of storage.
If you are toting working files around for the semester an iPod may be the way to go.

If it's for small media you can snatch up around 128-512 megabites USB key drives for around 25-80 dollars but if you go with a promotional company that prints your logo on them you'll get the best deal. Better then picking them up at walmart.

An iPod would be more fun, but the USB drives are smaller and cheaper. I think that would be the way to go.

Unless you need about a gig or more then the Ipod would be cheaper I think a gig of memory for one of those things is like 250-350 and Ipod is like 250-399 and like Ryan said much cooler.
