i was at the apple store not too long ago when i saw the Leopard Packaging for the first time... it instantly caught my eye when i walked in the store.

I was curious to find out what material/stock they used to get that effect?
at first i thought it was a regular foil stock, but it has a "chrome sphere" look to it...

Anyone got any comments on this?

for those who haven't seen it in person, these videos might help:

I feel cheated. My copy of Leopard did not come with a shiny package! Just a clear plastic sleeve!

It looks like one of the 'holographic' films available from any number of converters. I haven't seen an actual Leopard box. It may be a custom item but there are a number of films available. Check the Star Wars box at this link.

FlexCon, Spectratek and Rowmark sell films too.

I think you're right PD. I have a leopard box and it looks like holographic film with an overprint of black. You only see the hologram patterns where there is a clear spot.

Just going out on a limb here, but I think it's foil stock and a black/purple screen (meaning not 100% coverage - not "screen printed") printed on top.
I noticed it instantly and that was my initial thought. I also started thinking about how I can try that at my job...
