So I'm about to buy paper and envelopes for my wedding invitations (new comp to be posted in the showcase before the end of the week). I want to use a dark brown envelope with a label that wraps around with the addresses. My question is:
Has anyone tried mailing dark envelopes through the US Post Office? Does this cause any problems in delivery? Cost more in postage? Anything I need to keep in mind?
I've tried searching online (and on the USPS site), but I haven't come up with anything that answers my question. Perhaps I'm using the wrong search terms, I dunno.
Anyone??

They will probably slap a white sticker on the bottom on them for their barcode to print on.
Another thing you can do is take one into the post office and ask them if everything is okay with it before you make up a few hundred of them. The postal inspector people should be able to assist you on the spot.
:)
Shouldn't matter. They may put a little sticker strip with a barcode on it though. I'm not sure exactly what triggers this but sometimes I'll get mail that they have put the sticker on.

Hmmm.... I think I can live with the little sticker across the bottom. Kinda ruins the nice solid dark chocolately look I was going for, but we all have to make sacrifices for our art. Or something like that.

It has to do with the thickness of the letter(s) inside the envelope. If it is too rounded, they will stick a sticker on it with the neon orange barcode since it does not have a flat surface to print on. Also if the printer messes up and prints the barcode illegible they will place a sticker over the 'oops' printing mark.
(I worked in a mail store for 4 years in college)
^^^ Cool, good to know. :)

Hey, did you post your final invitation on here? I can't remember seeing it. Was I away? I wanna see!
I've done 2 wedding invitations this week. Not mine ;) It certainly is the season.

You are way ahead with your planning by the way! The 2 invitations I designed that are being printed this week have weddings in March and April.
Still, I guess the longer people have to save up for your wedding presents the better :D

It's not that I'm trying to get ahead of the game with the invites per se, but I do want to send Save-the-Date cards. It's a popular time of year for families to take vacations since the kidlets are out of school, so I want to get the word out to everyone I intend to invite before anyone makes their vacation plans. I already know of a musician friend of my fiance's whom we were hoping to hire for our cocktail hour who's already booked his vacation; the DJ we've hired was actually supposed to leave for his vacation that day, and ended up putting it off a day so he could do our wedding.

Oh, Save the Dates. I remember doing a few of them when I worked at a wedding printer shop. I haven't done a single Save the Date card at this job though. Weird.
