I'm doing BA (Hons) Graphic Design, do I ever use 3D software?

Anyone who has done this course or anything similar and used 3D programming software like Maya, 3DMax etc?

Hello there Rambot, as I'm down the road from you, North Hykeham, I can tell you that you will not need any 3D rendering programmes.

PhotoShop, Illustrator and InDesign will serve you well. There will be some focus on Flash animation and the Web but primarily you're looking at the main 3.

I've been to TPH a few times and I'm donating to this years 3rd year committee. I'm sure we'll meet up at some point.

I am in my third year of a BA Hons in Graphic Design, and we have never been taught any 3D programs. However, some people from the course over the three years have use Maya etc for 3D work if that was the best means for communicating their design intentions.

If it is something you're interested in you could always learn on the side and incorporate it into those briefs that it seems appropriate but it is not something that is specifically covered.

BURGLAR STEALS CHIVES IN BIZARRE RAID

A bizarre burglar terrified two young men when he walked into their house - and stole some chives. Anthony Mark Allen (28) stole the herb from the men's student house in Hungate, Lincoln. He walked through their open door and tried to demand cash from them, Lincoln Crown Court was told.

He was aggressive and told the students he would beat them up if they refused to give him £15,000. But in the end he settled for stealing the chives - and stuffed a few books and DVDs in his pocket too.

Maya and 3d Max are more intended to be used for animation, modeling, lighting, effects and texturing. Using these programs for print work would be equivalent to using a wrench as a hammer – there are better and more productive methods.

Now look here Buda, us Lincoln folk like to add a bit of taste to our food and we'll go to almost any measure to do so.

Seriously though, that's weird. Even for a Yellow Belly (that's the age old term for a Lincolner).

News is generally quiet in Lincoln, the front page of our local rag, Lincolnshire Echo, is often a testament to how dull this place can be. That said some of our hicks enjoy the occasional completely over the top homicide session. Last year a guy defended his family with a Samurai sword, stabbed one guy (instant death) and almost removed another of his arm. All in the name of self defence... apparently. :eek:

I prefer the chive stealing story over the samarai sword story. We have our own samarai sword stories here in Auckland.
