I've been here for a week and haven't really introduced myself. I'm Rob, currently studying Graphic Design at the University of Lincoln (UK).

I'm in my first year and I've just came back from my assessment which took place this morning, which I didn't do too well on. I hope I can post my work on here and seek for approval or useful advice aswell so I can blow away my tutors next tutorial.

I've also been looking at most of the work on these forums (also uploading some of mien), and so far I'm stunned. How can I produce this kind of quality of work when I graduate? I hope while I'm here I'll learn alot of useful tips to keep me one step ahead of my other students.

Anyway, enough of me whining.

The same way you get to Carnegie Hall: Practice, practice, practice. :):)

I'm new around here too. (So far, they seem to be OK...but keep an eye on that one over there...)

I've seen some excellent critiques here so far, and lots of great advice. So post your work and ask questions!

Cheers!

Only one of them to watch? You must've had it easy so far Garricks. They're all nutters, except that one over there...

Welcome Rambot. I take it you're in your first year. Don't worry about the first few assessments, you've got plenty of time to wow them yet. You'll find your skills will have the snowball effect.

Welcome Rambot. I'm glad you're here and I admire your desire to "blow away your tutors." Well, as long as it's not taken the wrong way. ;)

...and more practice.

Also studying other design pieces will help you.

Every time you see something that you love, write down what makes the design so successful. Hopefully you will retain the Do's for next time you design.

Writing down Don't's for when you see terrible design also helps, but isn't nearly as fun or inspiring.

Hi Rob, welcome to GDF. Good for you for wanting to be the best you can be instead of just doing what you need to do to finish your education.

When you have a few moments, please take a look over the threads posted here (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=42); they explain just about everything you need to know about GDF. (There are some very helpful tips for portfolio building and things like that in the "frequently discussed topics" thread on that page which you might find helpful.)

If you're not familiar with vBulletin forums there are some great tips to help get you acquainted posted here (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28801). Enjoy your stay!
