I am looking for pointers on how to wrap text like the word jackalope in this logo
http://logoshak.com/~asgsport/images/Odessa_Jackalopes.gif
I want it to fit inside the shape top and bottom, regardless of the shape.
I've worked out how to wrap inside a shape in freehand and keeping the text strokes
vertical, but it doesnt wrap to the top of the shape at the same time. I have access to Illustroator or Freehand does either of them do what I am looking for?

If you have Illustrator CS then under Object>Envelope Distort, you'll find the tools you need. If you don't have CS, and have AI V.8 you can do the same thing with KPT Vector Effects. If you have AI 9 or 10 I don't know... those two didn't last long in my art dept.

or you can just draw a line with your pen tool, select the type on path tool, click on the line and away you go :)

in AI v.10 you can type the text, then select Effect > Warp and shape the text that way... the option I think you're looking for is called 'flag'.

You've gotta do what you've gotta do.

Graphic Design Heroes! Call me Captain Type Caster. I’ve fought off “The Evil Cosmic Sans” for year but it seems “Dr. Extreme Untalent” keeps bringing him back. I must find a way to defeat this evil creature.

Capt. Creative bring me those comps…

Donna,

Couldn't see the graphic (host server bandwidth exceeded, it said).

But if it's envelope distortion, AI 10 and up does support that, as mentioned upthread. Prior to this, there was a sneaky cut and paste method you could do going from MSWord's WordArt to AI, but thankfully those days are finally gone.

For the record, CorelDraw has had a superb collection of envelope distortion tools for over a decade.

But to it's credit, AI's distortion tools can also work on rasters(!). Really slow, but very cool and handy to remember.
