like the title says, i'm looking for a font management software for windows vista. i really liked font explorer x but it keeps crashing on my vista machine. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You may have some problems with this one. Vista is based on 64 bit technology and MOST of the old font management software will not run in that environment.

A couple of suggestions to try:

Vista has an option to where you can try software in the legacy versions modes (XP, 2000, 95 etc...). I dont remember where the feature is, probably the control panel somewhere.

Instead of Font Explorer X (which the Windows version was always buggy in the first place), try something like "The Font Thing" or "Windows Fonts Explorer"... both are available free at download.com. You can try running these in legacy mode also.

thanks for the reply. i'm going to try "the font thing" and see if that works. if not i might dig up a copy of xp and ditch vista. i have too many fonts and nothing to manage them with.

I doubt you'll have much luck with font thing. It hasn't been updated in years, and it never supported anything other than true type fonts.

Hopefully soon, Linotype will get around to releasing a final Windows version of FontExplorer X (the version that you've been using is only a beta).

To be honest, it seems the only decent font management option for Windows at the moment is Suitcase (http://www.extensis.com/en/products/font_management/product_information.jsp?id=1055). And it's not that great...

I use one called Maintype, but I am on XP, so I dunno about Vista. Good luck with that.

Extensis seems to be able to have Vista compatibility. I do not know how stable it is however. But I LOVE Extensis Font mgmt - I use it on my mac at home, and I have been trying to get it for here at work.
