Hi I'm new to this forum, I work at a t-shirt shop in south georgia. It's not great but not bad either. A couple of months ago I recieved an email from my old girl friend from 17 years ago we started talking, I've gone to see her a couple of times. The problem is she lives in south florida, and I would like to move down there so that I may live with her. Can any of you help me find a place to work or maybe point me in the right direction.
Thank in advance.

Hrmmm.... Can't think of any places that are hiring right now off the top of my head. But from a fellow S FL artist, WELCOME! :D

Have you tried monster? hot jobs? dice? craigslist *shudders*?

I have tried most of those places but I have not found anything. I was hoping somebody hears something from their jobs or something like that.

Britt... up near the top right of this page is a link for jobs... try searching that for the Florida section.

Tell her if she loves you she will support you. Then move into her place and hang about and wait for her to bring home the bacon :)

That's terrible advice. Ignore me.

That sounds like a good idea but, but I do not think I will end up staying long if I do that.

Welcome aboard, Britt8m!!

Some of the best tools for a job search (aside from having a killer portfolio and good interview skills): the interwebs, the newspaper, word of mouth, temp agencies. I can't really give you any better advice, as I'm not in Florida and perhaps the market is different than up here. However, those four suggestions are fairly universal. Best of luck to ya!!

2 words.

Unemployment check.

Take your time to search - I hear the democrats want to include extended unemployment benefits in Bush's economic stimulus package. Extra Bonus!

If your girlfriend is in S Florida, perhaps she could poke around for you in the local market.

Don't know if they're still looking, but I have a friend who works with the LPGA (Daytona Beach area), and they were looking for a Graphic Designer. Might be worth checking out.

Daytona is mid Florida... he is looking for S Florida, so that would be a 3-5 hour commute each way

Oh well, better than a GA commute. :)
It's the only Florida thing I've got.

It sucks down here. I have several close friends that are going on 9 months without a real full-time design job!

I know Publix was hiring a month or so ago. But they are located in Lakeland, like 5.5 hours away...

Find a realtor to befriend. They know everybody...and everybody's buisness. I know that's how I found the job I'm at now. I talked to my realtor about selling the house so we could move, and told him why etc etc. He gave me a laundry list of people to contact in this area, I did, and one of them (never hired a GD before) hired me. They don't pay well, but better than unemployment, and at least the gap in my work experience isn't getting any larger.
