Are these your paintings? Cripes...it won't matter about the site, the paintings are what took my eye right away. They are fantastic. I love the Klimpt take, I did a big project on him in art school for art history.

Perfect that you see the images right away. I never checked out your navigation yet but I like the header. Not to sure about the red for borders though, maybe too punchy?

Simple is good. Again beautiful paintings.

The paintings were actually done by my mom! Will pass on the compliment.

We went with red as it fits her personality. Haha. And was what she wanted in her logo, bottom L corner.

Your mom does some beautiful work. Kudos. :)

That being said, although I like simple as well, the site seems very boxy to me, which seems at odds with the style of your mom's work. Maybe less boxes as containers around the artwork, perhaps? Although I agree with Danger_Mouse, the paintings really stand out, perhaps the boxy feel is a good contrast.

nice work! here's a couple of thoughts:

-don't really like the red on gray colour scheme, looks kinda blah and doesn't provide much contrast, i'd maybe use a colour scheme from one of the paintings.

-the typography could be improved, don't really like the small caps with sans serif, and it's not consistently used (in the navigation). the paintings seems more traditional to me, so i'd probably go with a serif font.

-the red borders are a bit distracting and draw attention away from the paintings, i think it'd be better without them
