Ok, first of all, I do not proclaim to be a graphic designer, this is why I seek your help.
I purchased a logo template from http://www.designgalaxy.net/
Anyway I downloaded the logo, first thing was that is was in rgb so I changed it to cmyk and for the annoying colour shift. The next thing was that the logo came as a psd with the same logo size by side, on the left hand side the logo I want to use and on the right the logo in greyscale and on a background. The image size was 72dpi.
So I changed it too 300dpi keeping the pixels the same, but then of course I have to get rid of the logo on the right I don't want to use.
So anyway I try and upload the logo to a business card site and it says that the logo is 72dpi, can someone please tell me where I'm going wrong? I've contacted the template company and followed their instructions but something is still going wrong.
Wow buggerme, that's quite a site you bought your logo from. Are you using Photoshop to resize your logo? If so make sure the 'resample' box isn't checked when changing the resolution. This will decrease the size of your logo by approx. 25%. The only way to gain resolution is by giving up size. What physical size is your 72dpi logo?
I really hope you saved a copy of the original file before you started messing with it. If I were you I really wouldn't try and do this yourself. Most printshops will offer 1,000 full color business for around a hundred bucks. You'll end up with a much better product once a pro has had a chance to clean up your art.

Hi Kool,
Thanks for your advice, I was thinking everyone was going to go mad on my ass because your graphic designers and hate templates.
Yep I certainly do have the original psd file and the zip file, I may be a novice, but girls have common sense remember hehehe
Yep I did exactly what you said, I unchecked the box and put the dpi up to 600 and that did descrease the size, however when I was uplaoding the logo the the business card site it was still saying the logo was 72 dpi (it's a jpeg by the way)
I just had a fiddle and I opened a new working area, pulled the main picture from the original art work over to the new work area, I inserted by text and now it's the website is accepting it as 300 dpi...go figure?

oops, I mean it's now accepting it as 600 dpi instead of the 72 dpi it was saying it was before

Hi Mickey,
I'm actually in Australia so the American Dollar is not good for me and your version of cheap may be different to mine, but thanks heaps for the offer :)
Good that you saved it. LOL you wouldn't believe the crazy stuff that people will do. It sounds like you are all set then good luck. I won't get into the whole raster vs vector story. There is a very good post on the subject in our resources section you should read it. Your logo is a raster image and it will give you problems every time you try and use it except for web use. I would really reccomend that you let a pro redesign it for you. It might not cost as much as you think. This is one of those situations where it is much better to spend a few dollars now, it will pay off in the long run. At least talk to Mickey and see what he would charge.

Thank you everyone for your help. I'm having mickey redraw it for me as a vector? Yes vector is better because it can be scaled freeley, yes? *laugh* See I'm learning! Raster means you get pixels on resizing, yes? So why do people continue to use photoshop to create logos? Is Photoshop easier or something?
Also vectors will print always clean, you can easily change colors in them and the file size will be a fraction of a raster. I don't know why people keep designing logos in PS. Lack of knowlege mostly I suspect. You made a smart decision. I'm sure your final product from Mickey will serve you well for a long time. /emoticons/cheers.gif

no business, just like to learn stuff, can't afford courses. so trial and error is my only means at the moment, the net has some interesting tutorials though and reading through your guys messages helps as well.
yeah it is like a walmart of logos, although we don't have walmarts in australia, I'm guesing you mean a big department store hehehe Well templatea re good for small business, larger corporations can afford to have a logo etc specially made for them so they don't have to worry too mucht hat someone else is gonna have a similar logo to them I guess.
