Hi guys, here is some work from last year that I completed while I was working at a creative agency. I lost that job in the end as I wasn't good enough. Anyhow I was intending to get right into working on my typography, and trying to figure out the methods I could use to improve my work. Unfortunatley I've had a nasty long term infection since last year and so haven't had the inclination to get on with it. Now it seems tht is gone I'm looking to try and get back to improving my design skills.

Speaking to a few more experienced professionals they believed my typography could use some work, so I aim to get to that but I wondered what you guys thought *gulp*! If you can think of any positives at all, let me know as one of my concerns is while I'm trying to figure out what's wrong, I don't know if there's anything right to take from the designs I've already made!

Obviously all comments will be taken on board, I can only keep learning!

Anyhow here's 4 pieces from mid last year which is when I was last on the ball with my design work.

1. Some labels I designed for a company who wanted a label for their storage boxes to sell in supermarkets.

2. My old creative director asked me to try and make a website visual he had made for this recruitment agency more exciting. So I tried! Again the basic elements were in place but I altered it to suit my design.

3. This is a brand identity I came up with for a sandwich company, the main idea was to make it look fun and lighthearted which reflected the presentation of their staff.

4. This is the last piece of freelance work I did. This is a leaflet for a PT in which he promoted healthy living. The inner was never finished as he left the job, though the idea (especially with the cover) was to make it stand out on the rack next to the other PT's leaflets, hence the bright colours.

I was always in art until I was about 19 then I transferred onto a media course for 3 years. That included a good element of design (among many other things) and I decided to get a design job if I could. I've been at it for 2 years since then.

I think your work is very good.

While we can never stop learning, I don't feel like your type skills are lacking at all.

Hopefully you get well and get back into it.

I wouldn't say there is a dominant style. I would say I really like the approach for each of the briefs.

The 'style' is design that works.

Well done sir, exemplary work.

The only thing here I would recommend tossing is the logo. Based on the success of some of the other work it is quit incriminating – therefore get rid of it.

The only other comment I have corresponds to the typography on the last piece. I think the headline would be better placed without a rotation and in the left corner. Something about the rotation just looks awkward. Its most likely due to the fact that nothing else is rotated though.

Thanks for the comments, they're all appreciated.

TZ, which logo do you mean, the sandwich co one? They really dug that in the end and went for it over a "rustic" looking logo. Most of these are early attempts at branding and web design as it's not something I did before I worked for the agency, so it's good to have that chance to try something new. hopefully I'l be doing some new branding soon.

From a design perspective I don't think its nearly as successful as some of your other solutions. Thats all I'm saying. For a particular project it might have been a great solution but the whole is greater than the sum of its parts;)

OK cheers for clearing that up. I hope to improve on the logo side of things as this was one of my first brands, so we'll see how I go!

Nice clean work, but not a fan of the last one at all those trendy swirls throw me off everytime...I am just sick of them (but that my personal preference).

Is it me or are two main heads lines crooked to one another on the last piece?
