It's been a long time since I've posted anything but I'm interested on any critiques/comments on this project.

For my Business Communication class, we were to break up into groups and create start-up companies then present on various aspects of that company (ie: Finance, Marketing etc.) I was the Marketing manager and charged with branding the company and creating a marketing campaign. The night before we were to present, we decided on an advertising design and consulting firm, Atom Design Studios. Because I only had one night to create it all, it's not as good as it could be, but I think it turned out alright and we definitely out-classed all the other groups.

I'm sure that there are other "Atom" companies out there, but because of the time frame I didn't do any research into what was already out there. So I apologize if I inadvertantly jacked off someone's company or logo...

Without further adeu...the main logo...

Secondary logo

Magazine ad 1...

And magazine ad 2....

Again, we already presented, but just looking for some professional feedback for my personal gain. Thanks a bunch.

One thing you may want to consider is if the lines would start to fall out in print, especially reversed..

I would recommend the following:

-Thicken the text a little to make it stronger at small sizes
-Adjust the spacing between the letters. At the moment 'OM' stand together, whereas 'T' and the 'A' are standing out on their own
-Adjust the text size so that the 'TOM' are 2/3rds of the size of the 'A'

I also think you could make the graphic a little more dynamic - perhaps by using some perspective? The cross bar in the 'A' could be possibly be removed, and replaced by parts of the graphic - that would make the atom loops feel more like a part of the logo, rather than an add on.

Magazine ads look good.

It's almost like your struggling with the whitespace...

Are you trying to design within the dimensions of the format? I mean are you creating a file at the size you intend to publish and then designing within those contraints? Because if you are it shows...

Maybe you should open a big blank canvas with no boundaries and go to work... Make everything fit after you're happy...

hope this helps...

Dubnium has the symbol Db, not D.
Uranium has the symbol U, not Ur.

Might be interesting to see the crossbar of the A created with the orbits rather than just placing them around the A.

Try reducing the size of the A so its the same as TOM then move the atom orbits from the a over to the o. I think lower case letters might work: atom.

just my opinion, I might be wrong :-)

with the magazine ads, you need a website or some contact info down there.

I think the biggest problem with the ads was the writing. I totally understand you had one night - I remember my good ol' days in CM417! - but if you can be a good writer AND good designer, your skills are so much the rarer. You definitely carried the visual theme through on the pieces, but the campaign notion fell flat when it came to the "big idea" or major selling point.

First, thanks for the comments.

Looking at the thumbnails, I can definitely see how thickening the lines is a necessity.

I didn't even think of dropping the cross bar on the A. I like it tho. We'll see how it looks.

James...are you talking about the white space on the logos or the ads? I only cared about the size of the end product on the ads. I wanted the ads to be very basic and clean. Are they too basic?

Frankster...yes. I took some liberty in that knowing my classmates would not care or notice. If it were a real world assignment I would have had to go back to the drawing board.

dats... please go to www.atomdesignstudiosisafakecompanyandwasonlycreat edtosatisfytherequirementsofthisproject.com
;) but yes. Contact info would be good.

vxhorusxv...I think I get what you're saying. We came up with the 'Your ad here' to take a new spin on those boring old billboards and bus benches. We are selling the design and placement not exactly the space itself. The 'elemental design' came out of the company mission to focus on the most basic parts of the advertising campaign so that it can be implemented effectively and successfully. Don't know if that helps, but it was our logic...

The kerning on the letters in "atom" is really out of whack. The space between the o and the m is super tight compared to the other spacing.

I also agree that the fine liens are an issue.
