Well sort of... while I was here I thought I would throw in a logo I am working on for the VIP area at a horse show circuit. An 8 person table for a week at this place is $1500 and it is right next to the Grand Prix arena. The show grounds are in the high desert of California. The first piece there is centered on the huge fountain at the entrance to the VIP berm. I hand vectored the whole thing last night.

The horse reminds me more of a western quarter horse barrel riding rather than an Arabian as the name Oasis would bring to mind.
maybe try something that elaborates the distinct way in which Arabian hold their head.

(pic reference is more for the other members that may not be familiar with Arabian Horses)
I like the first design better overall.

Well, in that point, both yours and my reference won't work then. This is a facility that caters to hunters and jumpers, sport horses... haha, i will rewrok that a bit...

First: that's really impressive vectoring ;)
Second: Horses are definitely not my thing and I'm not really sure what the identity standards are in the industry or the type treatments that fit the market, but the typography seems a little youthful to my eye. Are they trying to go after a new target? If so, maybe that's exactly the solution. I really have no idea about anything here, so I'm just playing the Devil's advocate =)

Very different concepts you have there....the first one says "VIP" more to me than the second and I LOVE that font...did you draw it?
However...that said....all that detail will disappear on a business card so perhaps you could rework it so it's less complicated....
The second logo doesn't say high end to me...it says "club" (like dance club)...it's probably the font....

I do like the first one more, though the detail may be a bit much depending on the size you'll need to reproduce it. Perhaps simplify the fountain to more of a stylized illustration that isn't isn't so literal.
Like gm mentioned, the bottom one seems more for a dance club. Also makes me want a glass of orange juice.

I only submitted the first one after those comments (its for a contest, so having multiple concepts wasn't an issue) since I am the only designer in the group I have a feeling I have really good chances...
I actually added more detail to the horses which were pretty empty, but when we shrink it down, if it looks like it will fail in detail, I willsimplify. But as long as I am working DTP and printing in solids it should hold up well enough.

I love the first one. Much more classy and what I'd expect for the type of place you described.
As others have mentioned the second one looks more like a dance...or strip club, lol.
Maybe you have a secondary logo for smaller use where it is just the one horse from the fountain. Love the typeface though.

I like the second better. I think it would also make a stronger mark.
Id worry about the fine lines/detail of the top one

top one all the way. nice work.
Second one is gawdy and would make good as a tanning salon for horses :D

The first one, definitely. Not only do I like the feel of it better, the fountain ties in nicely with the overall concept of "oasis".

Hope the prize is something you want, not just a chance at glory. ;)
A high end $1500 a table club that is running a Logo contest?
Okaay...

If you win...

A bit detailed for a logo considering most of that line work will disappear when reduced but I can't say I don't like it…

If you win...
yeah i know, well it gave me something to do on the plane and let me brush up on my vectoring ability. i think i heard thru the grapevine i didn't win either which is a riot. i think i lost to a kids crayon drawing. i think it was a vote by the people and since I wasn't there and no one knew it was mine, well.. you know...
sh*tty work usually wins.
Take a look at all the sitepoint contest for an example, lol
just say no!

oh, i don't think I can look at it, probably depress me. I don't like contests, but at the time, they extended the deadline for me because no one else had put anything in. i can't wait to see what else was there (if I get to)

Heh. Happens more than you think, Virgo. I'm about to start a Flash "greeting card" that's based on a child's marker drawing.
Sorry to hear that, though, ryan.

eh, if i didn't get it its all good. I didn't really lose time on it and it makes for a very nice portfolio piece. I can always apply it somewhere else! haha

haha, ok, i am not going to post someone elses work on here without thier permission but I will describe in specific detail what it looks like.
Oasis ---> In a brush script
*an illustrator brush stroke in light green
Club ---> Times NR in Caps
and then over the 'I' in Oasis is a scribbled green and black top that looks like a bush or a cush ball more than the top of a palm tree.
what a shame... i was close when i imagined a crayon drawing though.

well, i don't know if that is up to the GDF rules though. It was emailed to me by a 'friend' on the inside, so I would have to upload it somewhere to link it. I'll see if they have put it up yet.
