Do you guys ever think about the fact that everything we do (with the possible exception of books, web pages, and CD covers) ends up in the trash? You can spend all the time you want on it, but printed pieces will pretty much end up being tossed aside or crapped on by various pets. Just curious.

Today I begin to understand what love must be, if it exists.... When we are parted, we each feel the lack of the other half of ourselves. We are incomplete like a book in two volumes of which the first has been lost. That is what I imagine love to be: incompleteness in absence.

no problem at all, I know this field of art is about transient work, I will also do fine art that hopefully is more permanent

i don't mind, what i do mind is that we design things for these companies for a small fee and they can make a huge profit from what we do for them, but we won't see a dime of it... :(

Just to be different. I'm going to say: YES, I MIND!
But then I'd be lying. So no . . . UNLESS . . . my designs are improperly disposed of, i.e. litter.
Then it bothers me.

I had an ad appear in an Irish newspaper which is distributed mainly in bars. So I'm sure my ad was used to clean vomit up at some point.
Maybe that will be my new slogan! 'Design That Wipes the Vomit Away.'

^^ Exactly! ^^
I know I'm a geek about this kind of stuff but I will spend more time looking at mailers and crap if it's designed well, it's like some kind of sick hommage. Even if it is a pamphlet for a Polish Retirement Home in New Jersey I will look at the thing if it looks nice.

I had a job where i had to redesign this brochure for a training course for managers. Pretty boring subject and i'm sure that the supervisors getting these brochures see a ton. Well I worked with my client in doing a nice brochure. He spent the money and i came up with a nice look and it paid off. A guy called him and said he would like to enroll a few of his managers in the course. He commented that usually he tosses this type of stuff but ours stood out that he took a look and there ya go. Mission accomplished!

I worked for an envelope company for 10 years so no. Even a well designed envelope is destined for the trash seconds after arriving.
