They did it for Animal Planet and Travel Channel, so it was only a matter of time. The History Channel launched their new logo. If you don't notice the difference, don't feel bad. Its subtle. What do you think?

The triangle shape acts as a play button for animation and fly-outs of the little bug in the bottom right of the screen.

ugh i hate those.
I really don't care for the san serif at the bottom, it doesn't fit, but it's better than animal planet's... maybe it's just the .com thing...
did it really need an update?

It's not heinous. Just unimaginative.
Is this only for the History.com site or is it on the tube as well? If it's for the site, it's fine. If it's used on TV, that's kinda stupid.

It's not bad .. I just don't see where there is enough of a change to warrant a change
I wonder sometimes why people can't leave well enough alone lol ;)

It's not totally fugly - but the type treatment is a bit lame...

It's ugly. I think if one of us were to post it up for C&C it would not pass.

Oy.
Y'know I'm really starting to wonder how these folks land these accounts. Surely they had to make some sort of pitch?

Thumbs down from me as well. I liked the old logo much better than this one. Not a good move at all.

I'm not crazy about it either and that is the wrong shade of red. And I hate the new animal planet logo. The sideways, giant "M" drives me crazy. It's all I look at.

I think it must be like the old story The Emperor's New Clothes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Emperor's_New_Clothes) - you can sell anybody just about anything if they want it bad enough...

I don't get it. What purpose does the addition of the red accomplish? <scratches head>

Judging from this site, perhaps "Mike" is the designer of the new logo: http://www.logomagic.com/mike.htm
After all he has taken credit for the old logo.

oh my god! how can he do this? you *know* he hasn't designed those logos. i should email one of the companies and inquire about who really did design the "A&E" logo and see what they say.

My teacher Ed Benguiat did the A&E logo. he has talked about it. What i have learned is that logos are changed all the time without losing their identity. The logo can be changed so slightly but its still changed. we have done a few projects like that over the year. my teacher said he has done the coca-cola logo like 5 times. hope this made sense haha.

I don't get it at all.
It looks like a sliced graphic ripped off their website -- their real logo with part of the interface attached.
Its like the tail wagging the dog -- shouldn't the logo define the interface, rather than vice versa?
