Has anyone used Yupo Paper for anything? I am thinking of using it for a brochure.
What has been your experience?
Thanks,

Conventional inks don't exactly dry too well on Yupo. Ask your printer if they have printed on it successfully. ;)

that stuff is pricey! i mean why do you REALLY need paper that doesnt rip?
I don't even know what yupo is, but I'm guessing it's overpriced paper that doesn't rip. If you're making a brochure from it, you'll be making alot of them, so I'd go for the regular price. Normal paper rips as easely as yupo if you try to rip it (I think). And if you don't try to rip normal paper it doesn't rip.

Yupo is a synthetic paper. I know some watercolor artists like it because it's waterproof, so it doesn't buckle when soaked or covered in washes, but it does have a slick surface that takes some getting used to. Here's some advice from Yupo about printing on it:

I love seeing the yupo ads in HOW. And really it doesn't rip!
I woudn't use it for brochure printing though. MAYBE something specialized to promote myself but I really doubt it. I DO think its a really neat paper, and I'm interested in learning more about it for traditional painting and drawing media - now THAT interests me. I sometimes like drawing on Vellum so I just wonder how it would feel compared to that.

Clients want something unique and super cool. The paper is really cool looking, feeling and the waterproof and no rip has appeal to them.
Thanks

If your client has the $ to spend, go for it! OR suggest something nice that you've already had experience using....could be a crap shoot on this one. That link above is great to read though regardless. Talk to your printer, maybe they have suggestions on what papers work best on their presses in respect to what you are looking to achieve.

I've printed on HopSyn before (synthetic asian stock). It worked out well and was cheap compared to most syn stocks. Ask your preferred printer to recommend some and get samples to show your clients.
