I have spent time working on a Quark file in version 4.04. Unfortunately, Quark crashed and the file became corrupted. It reports the following error either unrecognizable file format (.9) or a bad format (.70). Either way the file won't open. The file is large 240MB. I have tried to retrieve the file with no success. I have tried to impart the Quark file into an InDesign file or a later version of Quark 7.3 without success. I really don't want to lay out the pages again. I have heard that something called Markzware might work. However, I have tried similar such programs with little joy. I wondered whether there was anyone who could help me?

Try adding .qxd at the end of the file name and try it. If not I think you'd be SOL.

240MB is pretty large for a quark file considering graphics should be linked not embeded. How many pages is this and is it loaded with graphics? What OS are you running Quark 4 under and do you have access to newer versions of Quark such as 7 in order to attempt opening this file?

This is why a backup system is quite the handy thing.
