Hi
I have a client that wants me to develop a template that they can use at home. Microsoft publisher is the only publication software that they have access to.
I was wondering if i can design the template in Illy and export it into Publisher. Is this a common practice? Should i just make the image and import the graphic and then overlay it with text in editable text in publisher? What are folks suggetions?
thanks

Not that I am aware of. Probably best to design it in publisher for them. Only problem with an overlay is the copy has to be the exact length each time. If not it will overlap the picture, or be way short and look super funky.
Common practice? Not in my world...

That's what I'd do. Depending upon what the final application of the
template is I'd export either a Windows Metafile (.wmf), or an .eps
of the static protion. Make sure to include a preview when saving. I
can't remember if Publisher renders a preiview image of .eps files
or not.
You (or they) should be able to set up the editable areas pretty easily
once brought into Publisher.

thanks folks.
what is the deal with "include a preview"
I think windows metafile is the way to go as i somehow remember MS compressing and decompressing pics and making them look bad?!?

If your running an older version of Illustrator you had to check
a box, or select from a drop down (can't remember), to include
a preview image for placement into layout applications. If you're
running a newer version I think it does it automaticly. It was a
Windows thing, too.

If you don't include a preview, when you load the doc into Publisher you'll probably just get a big red "x" instead of your template.
