I searched all I could and found nothing, hopefully someone here can help.

I am working on PC and have had issues with fonts in Illustrator 10/CS and Quack X 6.1 when opening files prepared on a mac. Is this just because i'm missing the fonts or will Mac fonts not transfer to PC?

I've done alot of internet whore'n today trying to come to a conclusion and am just more confused now. I know PC uses True Type Fonts and Type 1 fonts but what does Mac use?

While you can't use Mac formatted fonts on a PC, you can use PC fonts on a Mac running OSX

Mac uses Truetype, Postscript, OpenType.

You can get PC equivalents but watch your text wrap.
Or you can get Fontographer.

^^ what PD said^^ I'm stepping on your heels again huh PD!!! ;o)

For the Illus files they can just convert their text to outlines for you and that will fix the issue with Illus files, unless of course you have to make changes to the file :o(

there's a programme available called crossfont, you'll also need a programme called transmac, i think, but you'll have to check the crossfont readme. It gives details of how to convert the mac fonts to pc, and pc to mac. Hope this helps

Thanks alot guys, i'll look into those programs for conversion.

It's more of a quark issue at the moment, but we don't use it at all unless a client sends us stuff in it. BOoooo Quark.

In Quark 6.1 you can also convert text to box (outlines) but not sure about previous versions.

You can in previous versions too.
Results can vary depending on if the font was stylized while unsupported.
Fontographer does (or at least it used to) translate mac fonts to pc and vv.

It just goes to show how ignorant or lazy some people can be. The start of all this came from last year when doing the Dealer News show. The company supplying artwork used Quark and we had issues with fonts then. I asked them about converting text, but they insisted it wasn't possible from quark(ignorant or lazy part). From the issues we had, they told us if we weren't more compatible to work with we would not be getting their business for the next show, so we bought quark 6.1. I started messing with it and found out how to convert text and was sure to let them know how to do it since they were upgrading to 6.1, lol. He acted shocked when I told him how to do it, actually had him do it as I talked to him over the phone. So,ignorance or lazy, your call.

But anyway, I tried the Transmac -> Crossfont -> install new font route, worked great. Thanks much Ollie.
