I got to work at 6am this morning. Then worked through to 6pm.
Got home, stuffed my face full of Chilli Con Carne Pizza and watched a little mind numbing TV.
9pm I decide to call it a night and actually get some sleep for once.
It's now 11pm, I'm back in the office printing out tomorrows work for some students as I can't sleep. I laid there for a good 30mins and not the slightest of an inclination to sleep. I sware someone spiked my Pizza with some illegal substances. I'm wide eyed and raring to go.
Thank the Lord for the GDF otherwise I'd be bored and wide awake.

This is getting bad. I'm considering getting the accounts package out.
I suppose it would be a novelty to be up to date for once.
I have trouble sleeping when I have a lot on my mind. What's on your mind Spuggie?
p.s. Chilli Con Carne Pizza is new to me. How do you rate it as far as hybrid pizza's go?
SpugNothuson
03-04-2008, 10:59 PM
Chilli Con Carne Pizza was a definate winner in my book. The only improvement I could have made on it was to have a few more mushrooms in it and then fold the pizza over whilst in the oven to make one of those Calzione thingies (have I got that right?)
What's on your mind Spuggie?
The things that go through my mind these days are wide and varied.
From going for a drink with my ex girlfriend that I've not seen in over a year (it was a little too comfortable, it felt right but I know that's wrong).
To the usual mundane problems.
I have a fantastic knack at blocking everything out though. Nothng bothers me for long.

It's actually quite sad, but within a couple of hours of landing in Manchester, me and my husband had gone to a bakery, bought and eaten a pack of 24 sausage rolls between us. The plane food was so bad and so badly timed with having two toddlers all over us that we were ravenous and couldn't think of anything that we wanted more at 9am.

Are there no Sausage Rolls in America? The horror!
Pastry goodness is needed for all!
There's a local Pie shop to me that does a full breast of chicken in Tikka sause surounded by pastry. It's amazing!
I like scotch eggs. They good.
There are also a few places that do butter chicken pie. Thai green curry pie is also good.

Tomato Sauce can enhance the flavour of a mediocre sausage roll but it'd be a shame to dull down the spices in a proper Lincolnshire Sausage Roll.
Lincolnshire Sausage; coarsley ground pork (not minced) and fresh sage +seasoning.

Scotch Eggs
This recipe makes 6 Scotch eggs.
6 hard-cooked eggs, well chilled
1 pound breakfast sausage
1/2 cup flour
2 eggs, beaten
3/4 cup fine bread crumbs
Vegetable oil for frying
Peel eggs and set aside. Divide sausage into 6 portions.
Roll each egg in flour and with hands press a portion of the sausage around each egg.
Dip sausage-wrapped eggs into beaten eggs and roll in bread crumbs.
Heat vegetable oil to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Cook each egg in oil about 4-5 minutes or until sausage is cooked and browned.
Drain on paper toweling. Serve warm.

Once the eggs have solidified on the base, drop corned beef cubes in then splash liberally with worcester sauce.
Cook for a further 3 mins.
Transfer to the grill to make the omlette fluffy.
Top with cheese of choice (I like Edam because its stringy).
Fold in half. Serve. Season. Devour!

Mo it's a fairly thin layer of meat ... and the egg is already cooked ... so probably about 15 mins of pan frying would be enough.
You can always use a large heavy sauce pan as a deep fryer too if you are worried about shallow frying.

I know, I have family up north. I remember once in June in Rhode Island, on the beach, everyone was lapping up the sun in their bathing suits with their umbrellas sticking in the sand, frolicking in the water and such and I was sitting there freezing my ass off thinking "how in the heck are these people getting into that freezing cold water!"

I jumped into Lake George in March one year on a dare.
The thing is, I didn't actually end up "jumping" in, I ended up running in at the part of the lake near the steamboats. This turned out to be a huge mistake, since the beach there is very, very shallow and I had to go out about 250 feet before I was waist-deep in the water... and at that point my feet were screaming in frost-bitten agony. I ducked under the water (one of the conditions of the dare was that I had to fully submerge myself) and then turned to run back to the beach. When I saw how far I was from the shore I had a sudden and terrifying fear that the stunt would cost me a couple of toes.

My wife and I bought some tasty soft ice cream cones near that spot, I believe, at lake George.

Kittie - have you tried the new place on Dix Ave next to East Field? It was opened by the people who originally started Martha's as soon as their non-compete clause was up, if I remember right. I think it opened in 2006, right before I moved.

oh yeah .. can't for the life of me remember the name ... but when I go pay the cable bill in the summer I get one :D
Well it's sunny and lovely over here - just what a summer's day should be. My internet is finally hooked up at home (woohoo!). I've got some viral infection though and I'm off work for the day. Went to the doctor who just prescribed panadol and lots of fluids and rest. I was running a fever yesterday and had a fast pulse according to the doctor and I can barely move my head around because it hurts.
I've just made a ginormous pot of chicken congee which is the magical elixer for the Chinese. Like how chicken soup is the magical elixer for some people when they are sick.

See Mo, that's what you should have done:
Mo's bloke friend: Hey Mo, I dare you to run into the lake and get under the water. If you do it then I'll do it too.
Mo: ...or we could get an ice cream.
That's what I do when my children run at the Pacific ocean fully clothed, like miniture suicidal stock brokers. I say "look! an icecream van!" They don't stop running, but at least they change direction.

Sure!
These measurements are just an approximation and don't really matter so much.
1 cup of white rice (washed)
About 8 cups of water
2 of handfuls of chicken pieces (I used ones with bones, but you can use breast too) a couple of handfuls.
Stuff for flavour like salt, pepper, soy sauce.
A small handful sliced Spring onion (optional)
A tablespoon of grated Ginger (optional)
Bring rice to the boil and then turn down to simmer. Cover and simmer for a hour. The consistancy you are aiming for is a thick soup. If it becomes too thick, it might burn at the bottom of the pot so just stir more water in if it gets too thick.
Meanwhile, marinade chicken pieces with a decent splash of soy sauce, pepper, salt. Put in fridge.
Add the marinaded chicken to the rice after an hour when the rice is cooked through and resembles a lumpy soup and continue simmering for 30 minutes. Add optional green bits about 5 minutes before serving.
Makes heaps.
I also substitute the chicken for pork mince or deboned white fish (less cooking time for fish) and you can throw in a handful of frozen peas for fun.
A thicker (less water) version of this is what the Chinese feed their babies. When done like that I guess it's just a mushy risotto.

Mmmm...sounds really good. Thank you buda! I'm going to make it soon, we have over a foot of snow here, would be a perfect soup to make!
It's certainly a good wintery thing to make. Though I was sitting in the sun the other day eating it and it was still good :)
