My main profession is Aerospace electrician but my passion is graphic design. I have had freelance piecework in the past and present but you know how it is. Most of it is making letterheads or business cards, so most of the artsy work I do is as a hobby or personal interest. Sort of a jack of all trades, I have experience in graphic design, web design, programming, game design, drafting, technical writing, blueprinting, animation, video production and multimedia. Most of that comes from trying to integrate my passion for graphic design into everything I do as often as possible.
I am desperately trying to find a way to do what I love full time to support my new family (son #1 is arriving next month!). Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
I currently have my hands into a PC how-to site, a general gaming megasite, ecommerce site templates and piecemeal designs.

What company do you work for dmhorus? My wife is an aerospace engineer, and the company she works for has full time graphic designers, as well as contracters who work on site (and are basically full time minus benefits). I was employed there as a graphic designer for a hot minute but couldn't stand it. But if you're already used to a corporate environment and looking to get into design, maybe it would be a good starting place for you. If you're working for one of the larger corporations have you checked into a graphics department in your own company?

i work for Boeing in washington state on the 737 program. i install, terminate, troubleshoot electrical wiring and train new hires in doing the same. ive actually looked into working for boeing in a gd capacity but they typically contract out or use some sort of staffing firm. boeing has its own dedicated document service but its mostly typesetting, business cards, memo formatting, etc. im tempted to do some guerilla portfolio pimping and make some "boeing modivational posters" and start hanging them in random places - with a link to my online portfolio of course ;)
