I have just bought Illustrator CS as I want to design some logos and publishing material for myself. I have never attempted anything like this and am not really and arty person. However I have got on well with tutorials and some books and have the confidence to try this.

What I need to know is can you suggest some good fonts to start with and if they are included with Illustrator or I need to buy them, I am looking for fonts for both publishing work which will go to print and for web work (mainly logo's).

Sorry if this is a stupid request but I am a developer by trade and don't have much idea with graphic design and just want a few pointers in the right direction.

Thanks

Nick

There are the standard Adobe fonts included with Illustrator.
You won't be doing any multi-page work sent to print from Illy right? It's not a page layout program but can be used as such for single page flyers or posters and such.
Technically you are supposed to buy fonts used for publishing if you want additional fonts.
Be careful of Freeware and Shareware fonts. Sometimes they don't print correctly. If you can outline em in Illy you should be ok.
You're not just deciding to become a GD based on success with a few tutorials are you?
Software developer?

Hi thanks for your replay, yes I am a Windows software developer and no I am not trying to become a GD after a few tutorials /emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

As I mentioned in my post I just want to do some design work for myself at this time, mainly a new logo, but I will also want business cards and headed paper. I normally always go to Elance for my requirements and have a few designers who I usually pick to do my work but on this occasion I just waned to have a go myself as its for me.

That's cool. Wasn't bein a smart ass (well, I was, kinda, cuz we get the 'I woke up and decided I like art' people all the time. Took a chance you weren't one of them. For logos, cards and letterhead, Illustrator is the right tool. Bit of a learning curve. Come back to ask. We don't always kill and eat Newbies here.
