Your hand writting what you want, then scanned in? :) That's about as free as it gets...

Look up the term "scrapbook fonts" there's a ton out there that look like that.

Chalk fonts, crayon fonts, sketch fonts are all terms to look for as well.

Just be aware that some (most) free fonts don't work well for hires print applications.

Very True - but creating outlines in Illustrator works most of the time.

Also, many free fonts are just samples so you can 'try out' a font that they want you to pay for. These samples often don't include certain characters. Like vowels. ;)

If the font has a wonky outline, outlining it will make wonky outlines. :D
It's kind of sad sometimes when someone invests time and effort in a large layout only to find that when the font is blown up to larger than a monitor, it looks like butt. "Grunge" fonts in particular are notorious for this.

Also many free fonts are only for personal use.

Take a look at the fonts at Misprinted type (http://www.misprintedtype.com/v3/fonts.php).

There are plenty of free, good quality, non-demo fonts out there if you know where to look. But if you don't, it's probably easier to buy a font.

I love Misprinted type fonts. They are hot. Well, some of them are hot.
