I am considering a position with a gaming-oriented startup in San Francisco that is well-funded. They will need a lot of UI design direction, so I will tentatively call this a Senior Design role. I will not be doing much back end work at all, no programming, possibly some flash animations, but mostly concepting and handing off to engineers. I have been asked to come up with an hourly contract rate, as well as an annual salary estimate. Does anyone know what the average area rates are for this kind of UI/Graphic design role? Should these rates be affected by the industry in question?

Thanks, and sorry if this is the wrong forum.

Unfortunately, we can't legally discuss pricing on the forum.

cannot help with your hourly rate - against the law to discuss pricing as Urst as mentioned.

HOWEVER, what you can do, is decide how much you think your worth - based on quality of work, experience, and demand. THEN figure out how long you think each design would take, add on a few hours and go on that.

A good and handy book that every designer should own is the GAG pricing and guidelines book - it helps you figure out what you should charge, and how to go about running a proper design business. Hope that helps!
