what its best DPI or Resolution?

for example if someone want to print a photo with 12MP and 172dpi to 24"x36" enlargment. what its more important?

i think that DPI its very and more important than resolution... but i just want to know ur skilled opinion guys.

Depends on the output device requirements. Also if your image has lots of detail or something like clouds that can be more forgiving with low dpi count.
