i toke a class a few weeks ago which proved to be very helpful. like in the class, i toke a image from the net saved it as a illustrator template. and i was able to zooom in and out the image on illustrator without it appearing to be pixelated. how the heck do i do it>????? i am trying to do it now and it is not working at all. when we did it in class, some options popped up when i saved as a template but now no options seem to appear. please someone help eager to knock out some illy work but this is a lil set back

Have you tried squinting :-)
I don't know the answer but any image (no matter what resolution) is bound to become pixelated if you zoomed in enough.

Something tells me you had a much higher resolution image supplied to you in class than the one you are trying to use at the moment.
There is nothing in Illustrator that will keep an image looking clean when you start to zoom in close on it. The only thing that will do that is to have sufficient resolution in the image to begin with so that as you zoom in on it, Illustrator has the necessary pixels to redraw it at 72 DPI on your screen at the size you are zooming to.
Images off the web definately aren't going to fit that bill since they are optimized for fast display at small sizes.
I re-draw logos in Illustrator every day from crummy low res jpegs to lousy looking faxes. Sometimes having a little imagination helps to guess at what should be there.

cdl check out the quick info on dif between vector and bitmap, the bitmap image you were using is probably way to low res
