I want to be able to remove the top and bottom border lines on a table in InDesign CS3 and for some reason I can't and I have no idea why. It is annoying me like crazy.

What I've been trying is selecting everything inside the table and un-clicking the top and bottom border lines in the formatting image that shows up at the top. Nothing changes. Why? Does anybody have an idea as to what I might be doing wrong?

There are table borders and cell borders. With your text cursor in the first cell, select Table > Table Options > Table Setup from the menubar. Change the table border weight to 0 and click OK. That should do the trick for you.

Oh, and check to make sure that the "Table Styles" palette doesn't have a style set up...

But if I remove the table border it's still not responding b/c even though I click on the right and left sides to show up, they won't.

It seems like it should work this way, but it just won't. I have no idea why.

This is so incredibly frustrating.

OK, once you have the table border removed, double-click in the first column to get the text cursor. Then hover your cursor at the top of the column until it turns into a down-pointing arrow. Click to select the column.

Go up to the palette and click the proxy rules to choose the ones you want to apply, then set a point size.

When you hit the return key, it should apply.

Or, after you select the column, in the menu bar choose Table > Cell Options > Strokes and Fills...
and change the proxy rules and point size there, too.

Then do the same thing for the right-most column. :D

I had forgotten to select the point size. I knew it had to be something stupid like that.

You are awesome.

You're welcome! As one of my bosses was fond of saying, "None of us is as smart as all of us." :D
