...awaits me. For, at the insistance of my son, I have got my old Scalextric sets down from the loft. I will be cleaning it at the weekend in order to build a mahoossive track, complete with video camera plugged into the telly so we can watch the cars go past on the screen (sounds nerdy, but is actually pretty cool!)

anyone else here ever been into (or still is into) slot car racing?

I used to love mine, would always put washing up liquid under the rear wheels to simulate wheel spin at the start, never released the trigger quick enough to stop the car flying off the track and into the wall!!

The new tracks are great as you can drive the cars on the same slot and swop tracks at particular points simply by pressing a button, makes it more real!!

I know - but they're super expensive. Apart from the set I had when I was about 10, all my stuff was bought when I was young, free and single (aka lots of disposable income).

but, I have been reading today about the joys of Scalextric Digital and now I have a severe case of the 'I wants'!

ooooooh I know what you mean now - I don't even know what they call them here .. remote controlled race tracks or something like that.

I never had a set .. my brother did ... I used to love to play with them.

Sounds like a lot of fun Fozzie :D

I used to have a few of those when I was really young. I seem to remember them flying off the track all the time! Also hair getting in the wheels. It was a lot of fun though! I think they even had some crazy tracks with areas where the cars could potentially collide.

ooooh yes. Crossroads, chicanes, crossovers... all potential crashzones.

in the late 80's/early 90's, they (Scalextric) put magnets under the cars (Magnatraction, they called it) to assist with the whole 'flying off the track' thing

What a waste - you gotta give that check back to the people that need it. I was talking to a friend over the weekend and he suggested that we spend our entire check on drugs, strippers & alcohol. What ever is left we should gamble with. I think its a good idea, strippers need stimulus too.

HAHA ya know that does sound like a better idea! I should gather my friends up and see how many strippers and how many drugs we can fit into my living room and just stare at boobs and get faced till the strippers and drugs are gone :D

I know!
$600 will throw a pretty good regular old kegger. But imagine if you could convince 15 people to throw in their stimulus check.

15 people x $600 = $9000
20 people x $600 = $12,000

Think about what kind of party you could throw for 12k
Any party after that would be a total yawner.
