Big favor.
Please don't use

or any other glyphs in your linked photo names, even if your Mac does let you.

Sure. I don't have to know what it means to you. Just that I can load it across a server platform. :D

:DMan, you just wanna stifle the creative spirit. Why don't you just make us wear ties to work, too? I mean, if I wanna name my file ^^~°•∞^^, then I should be able to. And yeah, I don't name my files with extensions, either, because that's what the "establishment" wants you to do!

So, "€»«©∆Ω__.good™luck‡sucker.pub" would be bad, right?

I give all of my files real names, like "Steve". When I make changes, I rename them ("Steve_revised") and when the proofs are approved I rename them again ("Steve_final"). If I have to make any changes after that it can get messy ("Steve_final_final2_NoReally_FINAL_FinallyFinalVers ionForPrint").

Not only that but I try to stay away from all of those wacky conventions. Too many trekkies and whatnot for me ... and people named Steve.

You're crazy. Steve is a great name. :p

And don't forget REVISED_Steve_final_final2_NoReally_FINAL_FinallyF inalVersionForPrint, and CORRECTED_REVISED_Steve_final_final2_NoReally_FINA L_FinallyFinalVersionForPrint.

An ex-staff member used to name her final files with • (bullet) in front.

It totally screwed up the CTP which was a PC. The techs couldn't figure it out for the longest time.

We get files from a major international cosmetics company with up to three bullets before a folder's name. "Picures 1", "Pictures 2" and "Pictures 3" will suffice. "•Pictures 1", "••Pictures 2" and "•••Pictures 3" is really not necessary.

Canya tell poor PD spent his morning renaming about 200 photos and relinking all the gawdam things? LOL! And he didn't even complain about the too long names turning into numeric code.

Your filename: REVISED_Steve_final_final2_NoReally_FINAL_FinallyF inalVersionForPrint,andCORRECTED_REVISED_Steve_fin al_final2_NoReally_FINA L_FinallyFinalVersionForPrint
was actually called REVISED_Steve_#63837500388559 in the links palette,

so I don't know if it is version:
REVISED_Steve_final_final2_NoReally_FINAL_FinallyF inalVersionForPrint,andCORRECTED_REVISED_Steve_fin al_final2_NoReally_FINA LFinallyFinalVersionForPrint

or version
REVISED_Steve_final_final2_NoReally_FINAL_FinallyF inalVersionForPrint
:D

It's too late now, but I wonder if this (http://www.power4mac.com/renamer/) would have made it a little less painful?

I've checked into a few of those renamers. Woulda still had to relink them. And quite possibly had no frame of reference except playing Match-the-Preview game. Not into doing the Concentration game. :D But today's little exercise might lead me to explore a little more.

You should try and spend a few days in my shoes... convert over 1,000 JPG HRZ images to TIF and relink them all because the "outside" designer thought it's faster to upload layout files with images send separately on 4 discs.

Nope, can't mass relink all the images because the layouts no longer recognize it's original linked folder.

I'm having issues with CS3 Bridge crashes (OSX 10.4.11). Every folder that causes a crash seems to have one of those old <OSX, mac-acceptable characters in one of the file names. Including one of my higher-level folders which was named XXX0000\Data_A. Yeah, a backslash. :(

Well, I did say "a little less", not completely. ;)
