Just wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to save an Object, Charachter or Paragraph Style?
Basically, I want these styles to show up automaticly anytime a new document is created.
Or if I could save them as an external file, and then load them when I need them.
Is this possible?

Why don't you set all your styles and then save an Indesign file. Lock this file so that you can't accidentally save over it (and become "read only") and then open this template file and save as something else each time you use it.
I'm sure there is another way, but I usually make templates and keep with client's files when there are certain things that I need a certain way :)
Yes. You can save them as an external file and load them. That's what we do for the school annual. We save the fonts, the styles, the colors etc. each as seperate templates and name them accordinly, so there is no question to what should be used when 26 people are needing to know that info.
When we need them, we have our current document open and then load from the templates. Works great.

Actually, you can have all new documents open with those styles. Just define the styles with NO document open, and they should be there when you start up a new document.
There are lots of other defaults that can be defined in the same way, including document setups, default font, etc.

Thanks :)
This is very helpful... especially if it works with Swatches/Strokes/etc.

urst, I found that out the hard way (in CS1) when all my new documents defaulted to Zapf Chancery. It drove me nuts until I RTFM...later I found out it was a coworker pranking me... :D

Rather than create from scatch for a new default stylesheet, it might be easier to import them from an established 'default' document with the styles you want, when nothing else is open. Note: you might want to save a blank page of your current default setup as a template for your 'default-default', before you start importing in order to avoid the situation ^ above.

At least he didn't set your font colour swatch to none :)
