I guess we are to assume that the resolution is high on these images?

Go to View>Display Performance>High Res Preview.
You can also set it for individual images. HRP will slow down your redraw times considerably.

My understanding is CS3 is a hog. Does your computer have the horse power? What's your platform and os?
right mouse click, down to display, choose high quality!!

It appears erichmond has set it to High Quality but it is not working.

if you right click on just one image and do that it does it to just that image.

It does seem processor hungry, I can display individual image at a higher quality but as you can imagine - whilst doing a massive product catalogue with 10's of images on each page - not ideal!

Please don't tell me I need a hardware upgrade

So it's then an issue to get the whole book to view high res opposed to being concerned about the resolution of one pic? How much ram do you have?

I agree about the Ram issue. Do you need to view each image as high-res on each of the 100+ pages?

Good point, the whole stress of this job has clouded my lateral thinking, this is highly likely to be the ram then, I will have to put up with it and explain to the client!
thanks for all the help and the gentle nudge towards my Eureka moment that blew the fog from my otherwise clear and sharply focused mind!
