hi all!

i have been searching for informations and ended up here =). i know that there is a difference between illustrator and graphic designer but i read illustrator goes under graphic design? if im wrong, then sorry.

here is what i would like to know (hope you can understand, im not very good in writing):
1) i read that freelancer can work at home.
question: is it possible to do the work outside the country meaning your working place is f.e. in europe, you travel to the us like you are on vacation and send in the work from the us? or do you always have to be located at where you are working to be reachable?

2) when you are not a freelancer would it still be possible to work at home or also outside your working place location.

3) how is the working hours? i read freelancer can make their own schedule. is there a difference when you are not a freelancer, do you have normal working hours, fix schedule or can it vary?

and for personal opinions:
i read about what an illustrator works could be, the good and not so good things and how ppl got the wrong idea about what it means to be an illustrator. think that applies to me too. i have 0 sense for reality, knowing that i still think being an illustrator would be nice. i pretty much like to draw traditionally, digital, though i still need and want to learn lots as i m not really good yet. i m not vey confident in my creativity which i think i would need, and i have chronic wrist tendonitis. but i thought i could still give it a try.
what do you think, any hopes for me.

would be glad about some answers, advices...

Have you contacted the local government? I am sure they could answer these better then any designer could. Especially since none of us travel across borders to do some work.

I won't dwell on the negative side of choosing illustration as a career for too long-- just enough to say that there are far more ex-illustrators who call themselves designers than the other way around. And it's a very rare talent who survives exclusively on the illustration market these days. That same 'convenience' of the on-line market has had a huge impact on the market rates--as has the explosion in the growth and use of the stock illustration market.

For an up-to-date discussion on all things illustrative (in a far more positive, but not too less skeptical fashion) check out some of these sites:

www.ispot.com (great, all round discussion boards with real seasoned pros)

www.illustrationclass.com
(hosted by Von Glitschka-- one of the greatest contemporary all-round talents that I've ever met on-line)

www.drawger.com
Just a great on-line buffet of very interesting works from many artists.

And for sheer inspiration:
www.illustrationfriday.com

And an all-round awesome site;
thelittlechimpsociety.com

You're making me nostalgic. Back to my cubiculled mind of corporate design.
