I just finished a logo design for a small company. As part of the contract, the client asked for business cards, but want's to print them himself, as he is a small company, and has a rotating sales staff. I charged him a design only fee for a Business card template. My question is, how would you go about creating a business card template for a client that only has MS publisher and photoshop. I don't own MS publisher, nor do I want to invest in it for one job, I thought briefly about Word, but that's a scary thought.
The other issue, is that he doesn't own the font that I used for the logo, which I want to carry over into the business card. That may be easily resolved, since it is available for less than $100. Would it be wrong of me to give him a layered PS file that he can use? Any other suggestions?

Can Publisher import a pdf file? If so, give him that with the logo and whatever information will always stay the same for him to import into Publisher and he can add the names needed. Maybe you'll need to give him an eps file, he just won't be able to open it directly.
As far as the logo font, if he wants to use the font for other things, he'll have to purchase it. If he only wants it in the logo, leave it as is, just outline the font.
I wouldn't give a layered psd file, or any other working files for that matter. I'd give him the eps file of the logo to import into Publisher, and perhaps an RGB jpeg for Word use and a gif for web use.

I have been searcing google, but it looks like Publisher won't open PDFs nicely. I might try a test with my client.
I created the Logo in illustrator and it's final and been approved. I charged my client enough for his logo design with the understanding that he can reproduce it in all media for his business (Just not sell it as a stock logo, and I can use in my portfolio etc...)
So my question on the layered PSD file, is strictly about asthetics for the client to print a BC out of Photoshop, plus I guess if he's using a template to print the cards, he would still end up importing into MS word/Publisher as a JPEG and then it would print really crappy.
Anyone know of an open source Publisher substitue for Mac. I was looking at Scribus, and I might give that a try.
