Im new to design and this was brought up in my classes.

Can creativity be taught? What does this mean for the teaching of design?

I dont know if I support this or if Im against this statement.

What does everyone here think?

I think creativity isn't taught as much as it's released.

I think everyone has a creative side to them, but at the same time, I think that some find themselves in a situation where it's easier for them to express that part of themselves than it is for others who are directed towards another path.

That being said, I also think that some people are inherently more creative than others, as in, more able to release that part of themselves that feels creative.

At the same time, I think that creativity is often viewed as a way to feel superior to others, so it's hard to say whether or not that's used as a tool to keep others in their non-creative place.

You can teach someone the process on how to be creative. Whether or not they take these processes and come up with original solutions is up to them.

Another question: Is creativity the same as originality?
