hi,

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean, but I'll give it my best shot.

If you want to clear the layer style completely, just right click on the layer in question and choose clear layer style from the pop up menu. This permanently deletes the style though.

If you just want to view the layer without its associated styles click the little eye to the left of each style to remove each one indvidually, or click the the eye next to 'effects' to turn them all off at once.

and something else I've just thought you may mean by this, if you just want to view the styles on a layer and not the 'content' (for want of a better word), select the layer and reduce its fill value to 0% (found at the top of the layers palette)

well, I hope that helps you out :)

Under the Layer menu at the top, choose Layer Style and then select create layer. It creates a separate layer for your layer effect so that it is independently editable.

you probably were being clear to someone who knew you could do this, I didn't... So I guess I should be thanking you really, and Craig :D

You can also right click on the layer, and choose the "create layer" option. I usually do this, I'm just too lazy to move the mouse if I don't have to.
