I did this for a class, it's an 8.5 x 11" ad layout for a made up company that makes higher end audio equipment. Just wanted to hear some thoughts on this, it came out pretty good in my opinion but I always love hearing other opinions.

Is it supposed to be a parody of the HMV dog?

I like the Flutter humming bird/sound wave wing logo. Did you do that?

these sound delicious. Not that old record player, though really nice turntables are it in high end. You're talking a clientele that thinks $10k is in the starter range... just for speakers. Grunge isn't going to cut it for them. Most people with that kind of money aren't in the younger crowd.
I think you're on the right track conceptually, but grunge is not the 'in' currently in speakers.
B&W, Vandersteen, Classe', Velodyne, Mcintosh, Definitive, Thiel, PSB, Martin Logan, KEF, B&K, Krell... (not really high end, but nice site is Bang & Olufsen... edit: well it use to be.. sigh) to throw out some names that would be good to look into for some reference. Various Tube Amps would be imagery to look into as well (there are some absolutely gorgeous looking one's out there.

frankster: it wasn't supposed to be a parody, but I guess it works as that unintentionally. Yes, the logo is mine, that was for an earlier asignment, and this is just an ad based on the identity we created.
John: I get what you mean. The reason I went with the phonograph is because it resembles a flower shape. This being the first in an ad campaign that features the hummingbird "feeding" off of different audio equipment.
The next one I make will be a more modern looking speaker hanging off of a tree branch to symbolize a bird feeder.

I changed the original a little bit and did my second one. Click the thumbnails for bigger versions:
