Photoshop Polygonal Lasso Tool

Sorry for this basic question—but, whenever I use the tool to make a box as soon as I join it and get the marching ants it makes it smaller with rounded corners. I think I must have checked something else somewhere to make it do this but I'm sure I can't find it. Any answers anywhere? This started because I was trying to feather one edge of an image.

you need to set the feather back to 0

Yep I've had that set to zero, it just wont stay as a box it rounds the corners as soon as I join it up and makes it smaller regardless or not of feathering.

i been think but i can't seem to come up with an answer & was hoping someone else would chime in. if no one does by morning you should bump the post.
