pop up window

Hi.

I am building a website and the client wants a pop up window inviting visitors to the site to join their mailing list.

I really want a window to pop up automatically when you first arrive at the home page.

What is the simplest way to do this?

there are java scripts that will do this, or if you are using dreamweaver I know there is a simple way to do it there too... let me look for the specific tutorial I am thinking about..

Would it be a moot point to ask if the client is aware that pop-up blockers and personal taste are likely to prevent this window from appearing or being useful?
I'm not one to write-off ALL pop-ups, but to some they are disruptive. I think there are more user-friendly ways to invite people to sign up.
I'd rather be bribed with an iPod than hammered with a pop-up;)
