Just a idea for a Business card.

Looking for what people think of it and if I need to improve anything.

The text used to be in Optima. Lost that in translation from the mac I made it on to the PC i'm on now. It's Myriad pro now.

The answer is:

d) not enough information

Without the information filled in about what company this is, what they do, the significance if any of the logo, it's incredibly hard to make a judgement. I haven't seen many businesses where the only information needed on the card is a single name and phone number- so for startes you probably haven't left enough room for all of your text.

The most important thing I can say in response to this design, is that if you're designing the business card or logo before you have a client, then it is very unlikely that the design will truly help fulfil the client's needs and be succesful. You could liken it to a tailor making a custom suit for a man they've never met and know nothing about. The chances of the suit fitting are exceptionally slim.

It's a business card that I would use for myself. Not something that I'm working on for someone.

I do see what you mean from the information stand point though despite what I am intending the use for. Is it acceptable to use the reverse side of a business card?

I'm trying to use the lighter shades of gray to direct the eye toward the middle of the card, but having the text in the middle looked extremely bad though, so I added a place holder logo that I made up to match my fav. internet handle.

I suppose I could make the top text feild a double as well as the phone # feild doubled up. meaning it would be something like.
company name
name

short company info
phone #

This looks unfinished to me. What are you trying to represent?

If this is just a piece of card with some decoration on it to eventually show your name and phone number then you have achieved your goal.

Perhaps I've missed what a business card is then??

It is those little cards with some decoration on it that shows your name, company name, and a phone & fax number right? You carry them in your wallet..pass them out to people you want to know your number...etc??

A business card might also tell the viewer:
Who you are
What you do
What ideas you associate yourself with
Your products (if any)
Who would call you e.g. children, elderly, sport people

If a business card only had to be decorated card, then we wouldn't need designers and we could use business templates for everything. Oh wait, some people do that...

It's up to you how in depth you want to go. Some people are happy with a card with text on it and a random image that means nothing at all.

Do you have a example of a business card that does those things? I've never seen one that goes past. Name, company name, email, fax, phone, web site.

Also we're talking about something the size of a credit card right?

3.5" x 2" (no idea what is it in metric, sorry). Take a look at my cards I just had made. Name, occupation, address, phone number, email on the front with my web address on the back:

Right now your card just looks like something fancy you would hand out to drunk chicks at a bar so you dont have to write your number down on a used napkin. Name and number, thats it....

Cards should display: Name, company name, email, fax, phone, web site but they might also suggest (by their design):

"I'm corporate and trustworthy. Call me."
or
"I'm more designery than that other designer you hired last time"

At the moment your card says: "I like borders and windmills and centre alignment"

Stuff like that. These cards (http://www.flickr.com/photos/dailypoetics/sets/72057594104389710/show/) might get your creative juices flowing!

Lol..I work to much at my service slavery job to hang out in bars and pass out cards.

okay that makes a lot more sense. Thanks buda!

The lock pick card..lol

I was thinking that a business wouldn't want something like that so I designed inside of the box. whoops. :o

This question made me look back over my own business card designs, to see if I were going to provide an example of a card that "worked" which I would use. Might be interesting to start another thread where everyone can post their favorite business card design from their portfolio. Unless this exists already?

I'll look into it.

If you want to write some info in your card... I don't think you can do it using that card.

Oh, don't forget your printing technique and stock. These can say a lot about you too.

Since I was going for a more down to earthy company, I used a flecked recycled stock. But you might want a bright white gloss stock for your own. Y'know?

I'm going to try and design one based on my two biggest interests. Outer space and weather. I take a lot of photo's of the weather. (when i remember where my charger cord for the camera is at.)

I'll post the result when I get it done of course! :D

I think the idea is nice, but its too boring. and also, unless you're designing it for bankers or something, squares are out... give it a little flow, even just making the center spiral a little curvy would be nice.

also, the fact that its so in your face kind of makes me feel like im hiring a hit man or a prostitute or something... so, maybe a little more info.

I guess that is the problem with personal cards with barely any info - they don't show a logo, a title etc. So you assume the worst! We think to ourselves...Why don't you have that info? Oh, it must be because you are shady.

What are you actually going to be using these cards for? Business purposes? If so, what is your business? I think you need to think about this more carefully and re-read buda's posts in this thread.

If it's for...dating or making new friends I guess images based on your two favourite interests is ok, although I worry about the idea of handing out something as formal as business cards for this purpose in the first place.

If they are for giving out at job interviews or something, I'd still focus on something relevant to the field you are trying to work in rather than personal preferences.
