I would like people's opinions on what program they prefer...Dreamweaver or GoLive. Those are the only two choices, I already know the opinions on CSS and HTML. Don't worry I will use them too. I just don't know what program to focus on or try to learn both. Is there any benefit to knowing both?
I don't think they are even making Go Live anymore since Adobe bought Macromedia. I'd stick with Dreamweaver.

IMO, once you know how to use one WYSIWYG, you can use any. I usually start off using the program, then tweek what I want to change.

As far as I've seen, Dreamweaver is industry standard, GoLive is dead.
I still use GoLive. I like it. I am self-taught though and it made me mad when the brought Dreamweaver into the picture. Now there's too many bells and whistles and I'm still trying to figure out what the hell is going on.
I know I go against the grain of the die-hard webbers here, but I don't want to learn a new language. I know enough to make me dangerous, but not enough to speak the language. In other words it's like going to Mexico and being able to order a beer and ask where the bathroom is. That's all I need. Unless the outlaw the software that makes my life simpler, I'll continue to use GoLive (and or Dreamweaver) until I don't need to.

You're best to use Dreamweaver, but don't rely on the program as a crutch. It' really helpful to learn how to write HTML and CSS and know what is going on than to hope Dreamweaver will do everything for you.
I rarely use the Dreamweaver functions, but it's handy to have an FTP that manages your local and remote site files and a code window all in one program.

thank you everyone for your responses. they were very helpful. i didnt' know golive was going away. i think i'll stick with dreamweaver, which is good as that is what i have been spending my time on. i'm learning some css and html language, but i'm very much a visual designer and need to see things that way. i do see how knowing the language can only help and i will continue to learn, but i know i would never design a whole site only writing code. so far i really like dreamweaver. thanks!

I use DreamWeaver (GoLive is gone I'm afraid) but you'll find that somethings are easier to alter in the Code window than the Design window.
You'll find your own unique way.

Been using DW for many years now.
Started with DW3 when it was still under MacroMedia.
Great program love the option with the Code/Design window.
DW has my vote

Golive is alive. Sorta. They updated it but it's not in their bundle, as far as I know.
I use it and I like it but I'm looking to know my way around DreamWeaver too because that seems to have a brighter future. They are very similar packages anyway.
Has anyone tried FreeWay (http://www.softpress.com/products/freewayfeatures.php)? I get the impression is not as fully featured as DreamWeaver or GoLive, but it is geared towards those who are used to using print packages, which is an interesting approach.
i know i would never design a whole site only writing code.
Than you might as well stop while your ahead

before i use adobe GoLive, but after my friend told me that dreamweaver is much better than adobe Golive, then I tried it, and what i can say is dreamweaver is the rock :D, i love the way dreamweaver has, and it's really easy to navigate ( user friendly ).
