So at college we had to write up a hypothetical business plan (most people did design studio type businesses). So for the title of the plan we all needed a really quick logo, and because I was done writing mine a bit earlier I did a friends logo while she was writing;

I wont get to change this before it is printed tomorrow morning but I am curious as to what you think, because I literally whipped this up in 10 minutes. I'm not happy with the "design" part.. I don't like all caps but lower case didn't seem to work either.
If I had more time on this how should I change it?

thanks :)

The concept is very cute but I'm not keen on the font used in design. Would have been nice to keep the rounded font throughout.

hm yeah I see what you mean. This is it with the same font as used for "boil":

though arial rounded MT bold is simpler:

I don't think either are working. I don't get the point of the black thing below 'boil' unless its supposed to be like the burner from a side view? Even then it feels really detached from 'boil'.

Either way, I don't think the font you used for 'boil' is professional at all. I guess it -kind of- looks like the shape made by the coils on a burner though. Is that what you were going for?

Not a bad idea, but I think there's very similar things already out there (bubbles or circles coming out of an 'o'.

And 'boil design' just sounds weird to begin with.

yeah that was the idea. So, instead of having 'design' in white on a black bar, you would just have 'design'? Would you space it out to be as a wide as 'boil' or would you think the asymmetry would be okay?

Yeah. I'm curious as to know why it isn't "professional"?

hm, guess so. It was only a few minutes though! If you executed literally the FIRST idea you had for a logo, it wouldn't be winning any medals either right? I appreciate feedback that's why I posted it after all but please don't judge me based on just this. What would you have done? I also considered making the o like a gas hob (ie circle of blue flames) but that would've taken me too long to do.

And 'boil design' just sounds weird to begin with.

if you had read my first post you'd know that I didn't come up with it, and that the person who did come up with it did so on the spur of the moment, for a hypothetical business plan we had to write for college. The town she's from sounds kind of similar only spelled differently, so it sounds similar to an Irish place. I wouldn't have expected anyone here to get the reference though.

The font is cheesy and looks like one of the millions of terrible freeware fonts available on the internet.

it actually is one of those free fonts, which, usually, I don't like, but seemed to fit here. Imo some linotype fonts look awfully cheap too, so did you tell? What would be a better font that suits this?

i like the boil font. i think it works well. i think the fire/heat coil association might work better if the sparks (?) were more sparky - maybe not so round? (even though all the round shapes have a consistency that is nice.) just a thought.
the thing that bugs me is the ending of the design (for which i like the ariel rounded MT); the fact that it ends on white space makes it look unfinished to me. i like it conceptually, but it bothers my eye.

i know it can be hard to get critical feedback, but no one is judging you. people are judging the work that you put up to be critiqued.
remember, it can also be complicated to *give* critique - lots of different communication styles, etc., so if something hurts your feelings, try to trust the intent, and to get at whatever is valuable about the input (even if it's just that people are actually responding to your request for feedback).

Very well said, dot. :)

heh :) thanks. I do understand, I guess I just let things get to me too much sometimes.

I was intending the circles to be like.. bubbles. Or maybe the 'o' should actually be a coil. I can totally see what you mean about the N looking unfinished. But if I move it in it creates this black line at the end which is a bit confusing too. maybe I should forget the whole black with white text on it line thing.

I have a few deadlines calling so I gotta go :| I wish I could post more I do.
