New error in Illustrator

So I'm trying to open a supplied logo in Illustrator CS3. This lovely piece has drop shadows, inner glows, gradients etc all in a 413kb file. It takes forever to open then gives me this error.

Yes that is the first one that gave me that error. It seems like an isolated incident though. I haven't seen it again. I did manage to get the logo open with another error - Memory related (8 mins to render!). There was also a font default.

I have to enlarge this logo to a 3 ft x 2 foot poster. I can just place in ID and resize but I'm concerned about the drop shadows. Only 1 out of 6 objects display shadows in the appearance pallete.

Was the source file actually created in Illustrator, I wonder? This sounds suspiciously like a Corel or signware export...

It was supplied to me so I'm not sure. Thats a good point. I never thought of that. I ended up deleting the shadows and deleting some non-visible effects in the appearance pallette (extrude, bevel etc.). That seemed to work. Now it doesn't take 10 mins to open, close, save.
