Hi,
I have a Photoshop image (oddly shaped) with a drop shadow which I've placed into Illustrator. The shadow doesn't come over.

If I try to create the shadow in Illustrator it looks horrible. The object is only about 1" x 2" in size.

How can I either place the image with the shadow or create a realistic drop shadow in illustrator which is the same shape as the placed image.

Thank you all...

you may want to try to "rasterize" the photoshop effects. aka: flatten the layer while keeping the alpha channels.

Always keep an original editable file.

Does your photoshop file have a clipping path that may be cropping out the shadow? I just test-ran this and it worked fine for me.

I placed a .psd file (with only the layers showing that I want) and the background is transparent with my object/shadow just fine.

I tried flattening the psd...but it still didn't bring in the shadow.
How does one rasterize and keep the alpha channels. When I flatten it doesn't provide me with any options other than to disregard hidden layers.

There are no clipping paths in the psd file. There is just a transparent background, the image with a drop shadow effect.

I just had a thought to try to create the shadow in psd in a separate layer ..didn't work...tried flattening...didn't work either.

I'm using CS3.

Am I able to post working files here so you can see? I can't figure this one out.

By chance did you adjust your Document Raster Effects setting?

not even sure what or where that is...but i checked

document setup, under transparency..is that where you're referring to?

if so..then no i didn't change anything there....but i just set the "Export and Clipboard Transparency Flattener Settings" to HIGH.

and tried placing the image again...still no drop shadow.

It works fine for me. Just to be clear. You're saving the Photoshop file as a psd and placing it in Illustrator? Or are you cutting and pasting?

You will find it under the Effect Menu.

I just downloaded your file, and there is a clipping path that is coming over from PS. Delete it if you don't need it, and update the image in Illy. Worked fine here for me with your file-

Look at your "Paths" palette in Photoshop, you will see it there. Once located, just drag the path to the trash.
