I know in photoshop there is the create outlines under the filters or maybe it's called ink outlines?

I'm pretty sure they do those by live tracing each frame, and also making a rough outline around everything with a pen tool, that is then animated in flash. That's how they did it in the movie "the waking life" (if you haven't seen it, check it out!) :D

Thos were done by the same group that did the movie Waking Life (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waking_Life) ... and a little more over the proprietary software Rotoshop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotoshop) they used to create it.

IN general though, it looks like you could probably create something similar by tracing something in illustrator in large flat shapes.

Those adverts make me think of the film "A Scanner darkly" which was done using Rotoshop too. If you only want to make a still image look like that then you can probably get something pretty close with the "poster edges" filter in photoshop.

… and then perhaps live trace it in Illustrator after you've done poster effects if you need it as vector.

YOu also may want to follow up your poster edges with a smart blur.

I was playing with posterize and poster edging and its close .. but not as flowing.

they are nice commercials tho .. there is a cooking one that uses the same effect now too .. but I can't for the life of me remember for what lol ;)

Was that movie any good? I watched the 12 min preview they released when the film came out ... but I never got around to seeing it.

I think it's worth watching MD. Not the best story ever, but the rotoscope animation is quite addictive to watch and some of the drug addled conversations that the characters have at points made me laugh. Robert Downey Jr was good in it.

D-frag,
You can get very close to that on a still image in Inkscape by going to path, then trace bitmap, and the either colors or color quantization, I can't exactly remember which. I have done a few tee shirts using that same basic effect on stills this way. Hope that helps.

All the youtube comments are negative, somehow I like rotoscope
and I don't it's needed to be edited, shorter. More effective shorter duration.
I like the second shot shwab logo undulating.
