Regional music newspaper/magazine, feedback please.

Not too sure if this is in the right forum, but here goes anyway.

I’ve been given a University brief to design or re-design a newspaper/magazine of my choice.

I chose to re-design a regional Music magazine/fanzine, please find attached my first attempts of the redesign.
(Please note, that these are example pages and if published properly there may be more content/features and also in a different order).

Any feedback, good or bad is greatly appreciated.

The first thing that I noticed was the way the EVERY page was almost identical, including the front cover. I'm not an expert on typography or layouts so I'll leave that to someone else. But what I'd like to see first is some more colour, if not on the inside then definitely the front cover.

Very bland and boring. I see no attempt at design here, you are just plonking things onto the pages. Also your text jumps all over the place, I freelance for a magazine quite a lot and I know not every page should be the same, but every page should be functional.

Research, mate. Look at some of the big names in magazine design and see what's getting noticed. There's a lot you can do with images and titles and quotes and... well, everything. One of the section titles in your mag is TREND SETTING. Your layout is not very trend-setting, sorry.

Don't try to design it. Design it.
